Factory Bikes And What You Notice

Hard topic to pin down, but this seems like it could be fun. What do you notice with certain bikes on the track?

For instance, Cooper Webb’s KTM is clearly setup to turn sharp. If you look at his teeter totter effect (bike movement under acceleration and braking) compared to other bikes his is noticeably stiff. His shock rebounds so slow and looks to have the extreme dead feeling. While his forks barely move on the initial stroke.

What say you

Roczen's chassis looked so good (smooth, compliant) at the Atlanta rounds. Plus, his riding technique looks so effortless Cheerful

Also, IMO Jason Anderson would absolutely shred on a HRC CRF450R.

Maybe my imagination, but this last race I could swear it looked like the back end of Ken's bike was very slow moving and plush looking. I had never noticed that before and who knows, could have just been me.

I always knew super cross bikes were stiff. But when Marv rolled the whoops after his win on Saturday he did it just right that it looked like the bike was rigid. And I remember thinking how crazy it must be to have something that stiff, and then you hold it 4th wide through a section like that.

Factory-level riders hit the whoops so hard at full speed that the suspension has to be really stiff to suck it up. At cruising speed, there's not enough force to move the boingers!

And that is Mm25 bike. He is very soft to others.

Starts are key but it seems that the set ups are playing a bigger role than let us say 10 years ago. When a team or a rider is confortable all night, we quite can see it. Also, I start to think that some riders are better at setting the bike up for the later stage of the race, like ferrandis and webb, while others like roczen have an edge in the first laps where for instance they can regroup from a bad start and get back into the top 3 or top 5 in just a matter of a few turns.
