Suspension feels good for me (165 lbs without gear). The only thing I could even imagine doing to this bike is a vortex ECU and buying extra wheel sets. Stuff I can sell easily when it comes to get a new bike. Im mid pack local C Class so im not crazy fast. I defintely prefer how this bike corners compared to the 19 Honda 250 I had (weird I know, it turned too fast for me lol)
What are you using for suspension settings. I’m 155 and mid pack C rider. I used Keefer’s setup before I even road it and never tried stock. It seems a bit stiff for more when the track got rough. I don’t think for my speed and weight I’m the target user for the stiffer settings he’s posted on his site.

I went back to stock and I’m going to try it Monday. I’m sure that may work better for my speed and weight.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks

Put a little break in time at my brothers farm, feels good! Moved bars to the “back” position and feels really comfortable (for some reason I had them in the forward position on my ‘19 and never really noticed). Can’t wait to get on the track, but felt great in the little turn track I created today in one of his fields. Pic with some plastic I had laying around to preserve the OEM stuff for resale.

I run stock settings (including the 7mm fork height) all around with a 105-106 sag. I now weigh ~152 without gear. Its just a touch stiffer since the ~13 lbs weight lost but still feels great. It can get nervous at high speed through breaking chop if I get lazy with my legs, tight legs and the bike drives straight no problem.

Perfect good to hear! I’m about 155 without gear so I think the stock settings should work well. Only thing I left was the fork height at 4mm. Seems to turn really well still. I think my sag is about 104.
So I’ll try it Monday and see how it feels.
As I had noted going to the Keefer setup to me felt a bit to stiff for my skill level and weight.

Thanks again!

Have to share my experience with '21 YZ250F model. Before this, I had '15 and '20 models as well as '14 and '19 YZ450F.

What I have on the bike:
* Ohlins RXF forks and TTX Flow shock set by BUD RACING
* Cycra plastic kit with Slater skins airbox cover and TwinAir PF kit.
* Rekluse TorqDrive Manual
* full Akrapovic exhaust
* Free feeling map
* ODI CFT Podium handlebar with X-Trig ROCS and PHDS system
* both front and rear braking batfly rotors with CORE MOTO front line from Moto Stuff
* ARC DC-8 clutch system + G2 Quick Turn Throttle Tube

It is just amazing how much different/better the bike feels with Twin Air + SS cover. The difference is really small when comparing stock vs. cycra cover (which is slightly larger), but when the TA+SS is used, the bike is much more responsive. it is much louder (much much louder compared to stock), but I don't mind it. The only thing I don't like is the possibility for debris to enter the intake when changing the filter/washing the bike.

The free feeling map is a must for me. The stock map has too much engine brake and I just can't ride with it. I may not be the best at testing/developing a new map, but the free feeling map is a big winner for me and I urge everyone to try it. It helps me with better corner speed because I have more roll through rut with this map compared to stock which requires me to use/blip the throttle earlier in the corner.

Ohlins. I had it setup by BUD RACING in Europe. Amazing. The stock stuff is great, but Ohlins, especially the rear, is just unreal. I would say the shock is made for my style/speed. On regular things, the forks are not that much better compared to stock (when the price is considered), but on critical situation and overjumping, that is when they show their true potentail.

Rekluse + ARC -> win win. I will never ever have a bike without this combination. As for the G2 Quick Turn Throttle Tube, I really like it. The bike acts like it has more power and my elbow doesn't drop as much, but wouldn't recommend to those that don't have good throttle control. The difference is really noticable compared to stock. Also, the tube is slightly thicker, which is something I had to get used to.

ODI+X-Trig -> have to say that I'm not really impresed with the handlebars, but probably due to wrong bend. As for the X-Trig, for me, it is just the bling thing.

Brake system -> much better on 21 than on '20, but still has a somewhat of a spungy feel. It is much better with steel line, but I'm a fan of very stiff brake so the search for perfect brake system continues.

Cycra powerflow plastics - the side and radiator panels are slightly thinner compared to stock. Had the PF kit on previous gen YZF, this is a much better quality kit than the previous one. I would recommend using at least the side panels, which cover the battery more.

The only thing I will still do to my bike is change the OEM battery with GET.

If anyone is thinging about using the Cylinder Works 270cc kit. Had a chance to ride the '20 model with the kit. It is like a small 450, just amazing how different the bike feels. Said to myself to install the kit on the next service.

Hopefully this review helps. As for questions:
*Twin Air - how do you deal with possibility for debris to enter the intake when changing the filter/washing the bike.
*Anyone has a map with even less engine brake?
*What about brake system mods? Anyone tried some with '21 model?
*Do you have problems with left Fox Instinct boot and left exhaust header protector? Sometimes my boot gets stucked on the header protector.
*Thinking of 49T rear sprocket. Do you prefer 49 or 50T on tighter tracks?

I use a shop vac and suck up any loose dirt in the air box before pulling the filter. Definitely helps ensure you don’t drip anything down the intake funnel. Haven’t tried a 49 yet, but I have it ordered and will try it on my next ride.

IMO the 49 is the best mod that can be done to this bike for the price

I agree for the most part but I think it needs a little bit more power than stock to keep 3rd usable through corners with the 49.

I also use my shop vac and suck the dirt out from around the filter and the filter itself before I pull it off and it’s normally fine. I just changed this filter this weekend and nothing fell down and it was full of sand. If it does fall down just suck it out.

Also re the fox instinct boots I don’t notice it catching on mine.

I think the stock motor is capable of running it, but I agree more power helps! I’m running a PC full pipe, No-Toil intake kit, and prefer the “hard hit” loam map

I destroyed a pair of Tech 10s on my 2020 250 because of the header protector when i kept getting stuck on it coming into lefthand turns, and a friend of mine did the same with his 2019. It's a horrible design, i can't understand how the Yamaha test riders haven't had the same issues and fixed it yet.

This was my ghettomod solution for it. See the black steel plate, not pretty but it beats ruining expensive boots every other week.

Depends on the boot design. My cheaper Gearne GX2s would get caught but my new SG12s do not.

I noticed my heat shield is slightly pulled out on the left side. So I’m guessing my SG12 boots are catching it a bit.

Or you can just lightly hammer the guard in just a bit.

Anyone else have issues with headshake while braking? I have ridden 3 different tracks now and I this happens somewhere on all of them.

My local for example has a 5th gear downhill that gets really big holes at the bottom, they start before I even get off the gas. As I brake through these bumps i start to get some major harshness from the fork and then the headshake starts. I tried going through the bumps slower and it helped.

Do you guys think I need stiffer spring in front? I weigh 170, 5'11", all I have done is go 1 click softer on fork comp, have not set sag. I'm worried it will make the front end too high, already feels like it rides high unless Im on the brakes pretty hard.

Im thinkin maybe if I get a lower bar it will help, stocker seems high. Im a rear hole guy if it matters. Preffered the lowest twinwall available on my YZ 2 strokes.

I am 160 and I went stiffer on the front fork (Enzo revalve). You are probably too soft on the front, and you probably have too much sag. Too soft plus too much sag will def give you some head shake / harshness. You're low in the stroke (soft springs), but not enough weight on the front end (too much sag). Check out http://motool.co. Makes it easy to do yourself.

Per ENZO recommendation I went to a stiffer spring at 175 lbs. I would bet your real low in the stroke and that's causing both issues.

Havent set sag? Thats the first place id look to make adjustments. Id go sag, fork height, clickers, springs, then a revalve if the other adjustments didnt fix it in that order.

Hell yea, thanks guys! I have a sag scale, just been too pumped to ride when I get to the track lol. Bike sounds so mean, having a blast with it overall.

So 2 months after my deposit, my bike finally came. Pic is nothing special, since most of you guys already have yours and know what they look like lol. Either way, I'm very excited to be back on a YZF. Hopefully weather holds up Sunday and I can get a good day on it. I'll post up my thoughts, once I get a chance. Probably going to install the No Toil kit tomorrow since there is no dirt lingering anywhere etc.

You are gonna love it. Check your suspension clickers to make sure its set to stock. Mine were off a couple from the dealer. Each for was wrong with different clicks for each. Stock should be close for most people

Run your sag at 104-105mm and stiffen up the front end. Your deflecting because your going too low into the stroke and getting the harshness from bottoming resistance.

+1 on this setup. I found late into breaking zones it would get a little harsh even with a 105 sag. 2 clicks stiffer on the forks fixed it for me.

So the cycra power flow rad shroud are thinner than stock? Worth the money?

Have them, but don't really notice the difference. There is also some changes to the front, which apparently helps not catching your boots in corners.

So for anyone that cares, here is my input on my 21 YZ250F. Coming off of a FC350. My bike is stock with Power Flo filter kit. I ended up settling on the Keefer Free-Feeling map, after trying both stock and the MXA low end one (that was supposed to mimic the 20's feel somewhat.) Anyways, overall the bike is amazing. The handling surprised me the most. You can hits lines effortlessly and it just stick right in. And in the rough, the bike is so calm. I didn't expect that to be so good. Suspension is good. It seems to have a bit more hold-up than previous SSS bikes that I've ridden, but still very plush. Great bottoming resistance. Power is awesome. 2nd and 3rd are very useful but 3rd does run out quick, so I found myself clicking 4th on section where my 350 was just hitting the afterburner in 3rd. Overall, the bike exceeded expectations. The 350 has better top end (obviously) and brakes (modelation and stronger.) But overall, I think the YZF actually suites me better.
