Why does anyone even care? They are all different teams with different riders, run by different team managers. They all have their own style. Each brand is going for a different segment inside the market. I think you will see a much larger separation in price and features in the future.

I think it is good for the sport. Beats seeing 10 guys on orange bikes racing themselves.

I suppose this will settle the argument of "is it the rider or the bike?". Lol.

And a few years back, a Suzuki RMZ250F was actually just a yellow Kawasaki KX250F. Or maybe it was the other way around, I can't remember. But never mind that, those Japanese bikes are what any normal American should both ride and admire, whereas those weird foreign bikes have strange metal frames and peculiar Brembo brakes. Ewww.

What are the different segments? It looks like the Husky and KTM both sell for about the same price and the GasGas is maybe about $800 cheaper. Why would somebody choose one of those brands over the other? What are the differentiaters? Even the $800 savings is less than 10% of the purchase price.

Having worked at the big orange machine awhile back, I can tell you that while the bikes are similar, they ride different.

KTM-super rigid feeling and truly ready to race.
Husky-More compliant but still race-able
GasGas-You can race it but the suspension is really set up for the average buyer not the racer.

The brands have a different look, message, and appeal to a different customer. I think you're probably over-thinking it.

Why do you drive the truck that you own, or wear the shoes that you do, or use the tools that you have, or pick the music that you listen to on your AM/ FM radio, or communicate on the phone in your pocket? It's because you gravitate to a brand because that brand speaks to you, has feature you like, and does what you want it to do.

The KTM Group is simply diversifying to appeal to more types of people to steal market share from the other manufacturers. You can't blame them for trying to make money.

Think about this, GAS GAS is a whole lot cooler than it was 2 years ago, 1 year ago, or even 6 month ago.

You need more explanation, go to business school son...

I didn't say it was a bad strategy.

I was just asking what are the actual differences. Sounds like suspension and frame rigidity are the main factors.

It is a company that is willing enough to have multiple race divisions and multiple parts manufacturing flavors that they can offer multiple interpretations of there motorcycles. It's all a benefit to us. Its give you more options. They are all subtly different, you pick a base and modify accordingly.
