Yes I would be willing to make plenty. I have 2 months extended time off this winter between college semesters due to COVID... vented plates and mx graphics was something I planned on doing to fill my time.

Price is one thing I'm unsure on... I have noticed on here when FLO Plates was a thing that people thought $60 was a lot for a vented plate. But looking at decals works, they sell just backgrounds at $75. With the way my setup is (I print/design the front number plate with the vent already cut out and then place it on a brand new plate) I think I would be looking at $100. That would be a brand new number plate, new vinyl, etc. and shipping included. No hassle on the consumer end, just need a name, number, and color/design preference and it would show up in the mail. I guess I am putting this out there as an initial market research question, does that sound like a price that would be worth it?

I would probably do a bundle deal if a full set of graphics were ordered along with it. I won't post my past work on here (my profile pic is my personal bike) without GuyB's permission. I don't want to be unsolicited spam out of respect for GuyB and the moto companies that spend their advertising dollars on this site.

Cool to see people like it though. They do take a good amount of time to make but are cool thing to have (and keep). I have several just sitting on my wall lol.

I was thinking you would just send me the mesh and the number I wanted. Then I would cut out the number plate myself and install it myself. You could include some fasteners. Then you wouldn't have to do any assembly and you would cut down drastically on customer service issues if you really start making a lot. You would also put a lot more on the consumer for the install. I would gladly pay like $40-50 for a 12"x12" square of mesh and the numbers of my choosing. Also, I don't think Vital minds if you post your business info in a thread. It's just bad when guys start a new thread that is only to promote their business. For something like this I think it would be fine to post it in the BST section.

Well worth $100, parts, time, labor. Etc. If you want the parts, avoiding labor, shipping etc. Make your own.

I believe my plan would eliminate most time/labor.

I would be all for making my own. Tutorial video please!

But uh..how. Like what materials and how do I get it to be a grate? I'm not hand cutting these out. I assume the other dude has a printer/press or works with vinyl in some way already.

Let me know if you decide on this and I'm in for one plate.

Vented plates are still cool and while people may differ in opinions there are benifits in certain race conditions to run them.

I don't plan on making a huge business out of it (just some side money for school and gas in the bike) so I will just tell how I do it:

1. Design the background and print. I have the plotter cut where I want the vents to be.. this is my "stencil". I have found when you cut through the vinyl along with the plastic you get an ugly "curl" on the edges. Especially if you cut with heat.

2. Place sticker on plate. This is tricky.. without transfer tape it can get tricky placing the vinyl on evenly since the backgrounds are basically cut out.

3. Cut the plate. I like to use mild heat applied via a heat gun (not a lot!) with a X-Acto Precision Knife to cut through the plastic. Usually with this method it cuts like butter and is smooth. Do have to be patient though.. too much heat and you start to bubble the vinyl. Too little heat and your cut is tough to do and you get choppy lines. I've been thinking about getting a handheld hot knife and experimenting with that... Remember to do small precise chucks at a time. If you try to do the whole plate at once it will bind the blade and it's easy to make mistakes.

4. Get gutter guard from your local Menards, Home Depot, or amazon for the mesh. That's really all I use unless the plate is really big. It comes in black which is perfect for 250f plates. For mine (pictured above) I had to prime it, and paint it white. (Preference). The plus side of this, it's not nearly as heavy as expanded metal, and can be shaped pretty easily to accommodate plates that have sharp bends.

5. Located and mark you rivet locations, predrill, and then rivet. For an added touch to disguise the rivets, I paint them to match the vinyl. They look really cool just bare metal as well. The downside to painting is it's the worst area for anything paint. If you ride/race with area's with hard roost or course sand, it will wear away over time.

I like the idea of providing an option for you to make it yourself... It's kind of fun to do and it saves me time. I would probably charge $30 for just the vinyl, ink, transfer, and shipping. I wouldn't really be interested in including the vent material... each plate is different and I would not want to short anyone. I can design the number plate to match your current graphics as well (but hey.. I make some pretty cool designs too...).

For those who have not clicked on my profile pic here is my personal bike:

Shameless plug on the rim stickers.. I thought they looked cool on ET3's bikes so I gave it a shot on my own. These babies have held up 20+ hours of abuse in sand and deep ruts and look good still. I printed a few sets because I really didn't think they would last but I'm still on the first ones.

Anyways, if you are interested in a vented plate (or custom graphics), please shoot me an email at mc2visuals@gmail.com. It's really a project that I am going to be focusing on throughout the winter once I am on break in a couple of weeks... by no means is it an official business. But I can do some pretty cool custom stuff and I am happy to help you make your bike unique.

A bit of vented number plate history. Dennis Hall likely had the first one in the country back in 1975.

You might get lucky on ebay. My kx vented plate is actually a yz plate, and I have kx250f forks so I had 3dp moto do a 3d printed custom bracket for me
