Dunlop D952

Anyone used and/or have experience with them? Not a whole lot of info out there. Supposed to be a copy of the 752 but wears a little better. Thinking about stocking them in our shop for the guy who has a bike that gets ridden once a month and doesn't need the hookup that an MX33 gives and doesn't want to pay MX33 prices.

Terrain is mostly sand/loam here so we're on the soft side, but welcome to hear opinions of them on hardpack too.

It was actually a copy of the 752, which was a great tire. The 952 wore better, but didn’t work as good.

The 952 is still around?? I thought they got canned years ago. I really liked them. Never used a 752 so I can’t compare it to a 952. I still have a 12 year old 952 on my 05 250F lol.

I’ve sold a bunch of them and have had great feedback on them. Haven’t personally ran them though.

I have one and I think it works really well for the places I ride. From what I understand the new 952 is a dual compound tire that wears really well.

What’re your track conditions like? Any complaints with the tire IE not hooking up, difficult to mount, etc?

I ran them on the back for years, they worked good enough and lasted long enough to keep buying more. Nothing exceptional, just a good reliable tire for California desert conditions. Hated the front.

Ran one on my '74 Yamaha MX360 years ago, it literally never wore out! Although I didn't feel like it offered the best traction and feel for moto. Might be something good for the beginner or novice rider who rides a both moto and desert.

I ended up removing it because I wanted something lighter weight with a lower sidewall height and better grip.

Thats the exact crowd I'm trying to cater to. All we had before I started here was MX33s and Pirelli MX32s. I dropped Pirellis and got Starcross's instead. Now I don't know whether to go with the Dunlop D952 or a Kenda Washougal for lower price points.

I bought a Post Vintage 250 that came with the older 952s that were in perfect shape. They wore like hockey pucks (not at all, that is) but traction on medium to hard surfaces was not very good. They're great for trails, I'd guess, but not for MX, at least on midwestern dirt.

I’ll say sgain. I don’t think this is the same tire as the old 952. Used them as well for their wear properties on the rear only. Didn’t like the front. This newer dual compound 952 seems to work well at SoCal tracks for my bike (125) and my ability. (Vet Intermediate). Didn’t notice any difference in mounting but I let all my tires sit in the sun before mounting.

When the track gets hard pack it’ll tend to spin and slide a little, more so just feel like you have a flat.

Just an FYI.....

Dunlop Tires is the only MX tire company that develops and test tires in North America. They have a really modern testing facility in Huntsville, Alabama where most of their motorcycle tire product development work is done. All other tire brands are predominately based overseas.

My honest opinion on the MX33 is that it hooks up great while it's new, but wears a lot faster than the tires in the same range. I don't have the money to change tires every couple races and I appreciate well made tires that can last and provide solid traction before they fall apart.

So far I have really taken to the Maxxis Maxxcross SI for what I ride, I can't kill the thing and it hooks up awesome. I would like to try the new MX-ST, but might just go back to the SI again since it has treated me very well.

The D952 seems great for someone who doesn't ride all the time and doesn't need the most out of their bike. Doesn't do one thing great, but does everything good.

My friend Clark Stiles works there as a test/R&D rider. I've been to the facility bringing them KX450s to ride and they showed us around, impressive.

I use them the whole time . Most of our tracks are hard pack. They hook up great on hard pack blue groove . They last alot longer than any other tyre on the market imo. In deep loam , sand or mud they are nt great they pack up too much . But if its not that deep they work fine . I keep a mx33 for the deep stuff.

Didn't Kenda have a good copy of that tire as well? I'm fairly young but I remember but my god father and his buddies who were desert riding gods to me at the time always ran that Kenda copy.

I was thinking the same. Maybe its the Kenda Trackmaster?

Nothing as good as the 756 front but the rear is probably comparable to the mx3
