California use to be a great place to live and there still are places if you can find and afford them.

Not a very ideal place to be for Moto too I would imagine. With Zaca gone where do you ride? And I couldn’t imagine being in a city with all the protest BS going on right now. Super thankful to be in the suburbs with semi normal people!

I work in San Diego it's about an hour and a half commute each way, this is one of my compromises, although I did move my motorhome down to a long term site at KOA in San Diego, now I work a couple of weeks straight then go home for 3-5 days, I realise this is a unique situation, and probably won't/can't work for everyone, but I am a Californian at heart and this is worth it to me.
All states, cities will have their pro's, con's and flaws, to me it was just a question of what compromise's I was willing to make

That sounds like a sweet setup man. Seems like there’s lots of talk of Washington state in this thread and I’m not and never was considering moving there. That state has almost as many problems as this one does. I’d rather stay here and be taxed to death but enjoy the sun and motocross. And I’m a huge fan of the Menifee/Temecula area. It’s basically heaven if you’re a motocross rider! And much more affordable than the coastal cities, obviously Smile

I am from Missouri originally, so all four seasons are horrible most of the time. We came out here for the nursing wages. I'm in a nice area by lake Arrowhead on a mountain that gets all four seasons and housing is pretty affordable. But I totally get what you're saying about the covid restrictions. I worked near LA for a month and it was just obnoxious.

The constant fear of wildfires is horrible too, there are hobos living in the woods everywhere and all it would take is for them to start a fire on accident and our whole town could go up in flames. It almost burned our property a few years ago. We are looking at real estate as a way to supplement our future retirement, but there is no way I'm investing in any rental properties out here if it takes three months and a court order to get somebody out after they stop paying rent.

The COVID restrictions here are asinine and Why we’re putting up with it is beyond me. Gyms and Movie theaters are filing for bankruptcy.

Luckily I have access to damn near every private track in the area but most people are screwed for riding spots.... we do have damn good mtb trails though.

But I’d consider a move to Texas if I had to, not planning on it as of now. ...Texas probably the only other state I’d move to. Ohio, West Virginia or Texas.

They should pull your voting record before leaving CA. If it turns out you voted for the dumbass policies that got us here you should be forced to stay. This was a fantastic place in the 70s and 80s.

I'm going to gut it out here in CA while I build my retirement nest egg, then skeeedaddle when I retire. I hope I can afford Sedona, but I'll likely end up near Prescott, AZ.

Florida has virus filled mosquitoes that carry children away and ants that take down the many rabid panthers and bears. Venomous snakes every 10 yards, giant Dinosaur lizards everywhere, bull sharks in the fresh water canals and now great whites circling the state. Flesh eating disease on the beaches, Gators and also huge crocodiles come right up on the beach now and man eating sting rays and scorpion fish too. Been here my whole life and still never met anyone actually from Florida. There is one highway from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio and one from New York. Its atleast 130 degrees 385 days a year. The police still roust up grandma for jaywalking. Zero jobs unless you mow grass. Only land left to buy is swamp. I always heard it will be completely underwater by 1985 so should start any second and you dont want to be here for that. Hurricanes 10 months a year etc etc. Its brutal. 😁

I'm laughing so hard right now. I totally agree, it sucks but the reality of it is in my lifetime the whole country will become California at one point. It's going to happen, we're doomed. But I still wouldn't mind a lifestyle change and a slower paced life for the time being. Wish North/Central Arizona had some tracks, I would move in a heart beat.

the news is saying there is a mass exodus everyday lately and I'm wondering if that's true?
or is it just really wealthy people like Joe Rogan?

38 million actually. There is still traffic non stop all day every day and new housing developments going up everywhere I look so it's hard to tell. Lots of people are leaving but more are staying and people from other states and other countries are still coming in. I'm anxious to see the numbers in the next five years though

I’m moving to SLC next weekend from San Diego.

I really didn’t want to leave the job I have currently to start in IT, but it’s a solid and affordable gig. Riding and outdoors in general is amazing. Forest and mountains in one half of the state, desert in the other half. Also get muh freedum on haha

Plus a lot of people are too weirded out by Mormons to stay there. Funny thing is they are actually pretty damn polite and respectful. It’s a red state, and if you want to work in local government (I don’t) you better be a Mormon, so there’s some “dark truths” that keep it nice and affordable for hard working people. But I figure if you want to go some place you think as nicer do (vote) as the locals do. Because it’s clearly a working system.

That and it’s still close enough to SoCal to ride, attend races and visit in general.

I love my state but reality has gotten too batshit out here and I need a career to retire with in 30 years, I just no longer trust building a future in this state. I’ve tried, and will thus seek life elsewhere.

The good thing is our 130K paid off house we bought 30 years ago is now worth 550K and its just a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom house nothing real fancy but it was built back when the lots were bigger and I live on a cul de sac with a huge back yard and 600 plus feet of fence so we have some privacy.

5). And how old are you? 57, Male move to Colorado in 98, to enjoy the outdoors with my Wife and Three Daughters. Oldest when we moved to youngest......12, 10, 5. Then we had another NATIVE Coloradoan while here. YES Four Daughters! LOL.
They are Married and still herein Colorado. (Native youngest Is in college).

They are all doing great and yes!, the move was for the better never look back.

I grew up in Ponca city Ok and I had thought about selling both houses in Colorado and moving back to Ponca city and live like a king but the only draw back is I would have to live in Ponca city. Pinch Pinch Pinch

Only been to Ponca once in 96....ripped a holey on alessi In one class and then ended up on Some moto lab rats vhs rag dolling down the track in another moto. Great memories.
