Tarz, I gotta ask. Are you the same guy that road tripped to California looking for work and came back with a helmet?
Yes I was kind of looking ahead at that time and trying to meet people and make connections which I didn't do a very good job of, I've known for a few years that we were eventually going to move out of Minnesota. And a lot of times this life seems like its who you know not what you know, someone asked why I've posted on here about this subject a few times and that is basically why, people here are from all over and I though maybe I would meet people that possibly live in whatever state I decide to move to And I know for sure we all have the love of dirt bikes in common.
Heck maybe even someone would know of a good deal on a short term rental house or condo in a warm place. Actually the last time I went to visit California A really Cool Vital member JW301 let me park my van that I was camping in back then on his property In Temecula/Pala area, Very cool guy Who I consider a friend now. He has a track on the property and let me ride one of his bikes and we rode together it was pretty awesome!

I agree, I was listening to a Youtuber today that said he would Save $20 grand a month if he left California and moved to Nevada. (MEET KEVIN) (I don't personally have that problem though)

We mostly road pit bikes but he had a couple big bikes also and we went way up in the hills on four wheelers and you could see the PALA/FOX Track from up there.

Not to sound harsh. But you are to wrapped up in this motocross fantasy of working in the Industry and being around people who ride. That you are forgetting the most important part which is your family , find a state and city that you and your wife both like , get a job there that will support your family. There are plenty of people who ride all over this country, buy a bike go ride at the local tracks and then you will be around those with the same interests.

I'm not forgetting family, my wife wants to move probably worse than I do and I'm just that guy that's always had a desire to do something in the Industry so I figured why not try. I definitely am looking for career opportunities outside of the industry as well. I've struggled to afford to do this sport most of the time which probably fuels my desire somewhat.

We’re all a major injury away from making moto a much smaller priority in our lives. It’s great and all but don’t let it influence a decision like this.

How are you able to afford to move anywhere in the country if you struggle to do this sport? My assumption was you specialize in something you can get a job essentially anywhere... engineering, nursing, certified mechanic, etc. It will be really hard moving almost enywhere on entry level pay unless you've got some decent money saved up.

What is it you do for work now?

I have worked in auto sales for many years and had opened a small car dealership with a partner that we recently closed.
We were basically boot strapping and trying to grow slowly but The profit margin on the cheaper cars we were selling just isn't there right now. so I'm not working at the moment which is part of making the decision to try to move at this time. I don't have a ton of money saved but I do have some.
but to be honest I'm unemployed and have a cheap apartment here in Minnesota, Our thoughts are we can be in the same position somewhere else. With hopes of improving the situation of course Its not like we are leaving a great situation, we can be broke anywhere, Rent is fairly cheap here though.
With the kids being so young my wife has been staying home with kids their entire lives, that are age 6ys,3yrs 3yrs so not much extra cash around. she couldn't find a job that would justify paying for child care for the three it equals out to close to a wash after doing the math. so just one Income is part of just getting by and not getting ahead.

This is the dealership that I just closed, its a little bitter sweet because its something I always wanted to try. but at the same time my heart isnt in it anymore and I'm ready to try other things. I had this for 3 years but I really never had the capitol to do it right. I was trying to bootstrap my way up I did it all without ever getting any loans for a few different reasons. As far as it not being profitable It was partly Covid but to be honest even before then we were just getting by, and that was mostly because I went into it with very little Capitol, after renting the place and getting a dealers license and insurance I had enough money to buy 1 car So I bought 1 and sold it and took all the money and bought 2. the most I got to was 10 so the boot strapping was working, but they were cheaper cars literally $2000 to $3000 and I kept doing that but every month the Rent for the place plus Rent and bills at home etc I just wasn't getting anywhere, once covid came I sold all the cars, the selling was actually the easy part. what got hard was replacing them. the cars I was Buying for $2000 at auctions before covid are now selling for $3000 And I cant buy it for $3000 and fix a couple things which was always needed and make a profit. So that's pretty much the story if anyone cares or wondered.

Although I understand the frustration with your current situation and the cold climate, there is no way I would ever uproot my family without having sufficient employment lined up FIRST. Search and apply online in the field you know then go interview and checkout the area in person. After you’re reestablished it will be a lot easier to look for other more interesting lines of work while providing for your family and covering the bills. Of course kids are resilient but they also need stability and to feel secure and I doubt they’d get that hobo’ing their way around America in an RV. And some may disagree but it’s my opinion that the second you bring a life into the world your own wants, needs, and happiness take a back seat to those of the child who is depending on you. That’s just my two cents though.

I can see where your coming from, its an unorthodox way of doing things. People living in RV's and Vans is actually becoming a thing but its not what I'm looking to do personally. were just looking to relocate If we use one at all it would be temporary.

A lot of shit talking. It’s not an easy decision to move like that. I would listen to some of the advice though and get a job lined up. Apply to a dealership and get a full time sales position, work Uber and deliver pizza on the side, do what it takes, but I wouldn’t do the rv route.

Thanks for the reply I there is a good chance I will do that I tend to default to Auto sales most of the time. The biggest reason I was considering an Rv was I thought it would be a cheaper way to try out more than one place. And at campgrounds the kids would play all day with other kids most likely.

Campgrounds are pretty expensive per night. $50+ in my experiences. Figure an apartment for $1000 per month is $33.33 per day.

The Reno/Carson/Minden-Gardnerville area in Nevada is booming. The downside is that real-estate has gone bonkers due to all the people & companies moving there; but, you can still do ok if you look just outside the bigger cities/in the smaller towns and are a litlle adventurous.

There seems to be plenty of job opportunities in the area, too. I know of quite a few co's that have relocated to that area. Galfer being one of them.

In nearby areas...companies like Tesla have built new factories (Sparks, NV).

When I was looking to move to Florida - Ocala was on my list of areas. Close to many tracks, close to beaches, close to Orlando, and Relatively affordable from what I remember.

Get your ass to Florida then! Quit talking about it and do it! But get a job lined up first. Easy money.

I moved to w Tx. In 18, had 2 jobs lined up. Both jobs did not exist. I landed a crude oil tester, hauler job. They say 4,500 per week, total bs. Total hell hole. I should have left, but tried another co., total bs. I was trying to make 6 figures like I did on the world’s strongest hhg, in the 90,s. Nothing was going on in the oil industry. Looked at regular jobs in Tx., nobody pays shit. I ended in Chicago working for a Eastern Europe organized crime co, In Chicago. Not knowing of course, taking risk does not always pay off. I was about the oldest worker in Tx., proud of myself for trying, dam lucky to get out of there alive. A lot of guys getting killed. Current job not so great, can hit 1,890- 2,500 a week here and there, but rarely do. I going with a Chicago co. Again. I,ve been talking to a few. Chicago work ethic is strong, it,s like the human race operating at it,s maximum. Crime is not as bad, as tv says. Much worse in the s East. Make a lot of money selling cars in Chicago. By far the best city in America.
