The first full lap of MXGP Moto 1. With all of the drone usage out there now, you'd think this would be more common, but I've never seen this type of coverage from a pro motocross race. Yes, the spider cam thing in SX basically provides the same angle, but SX and MX are very different beasts. Also, I know FAA regulations get in the way of drone usage during live events in the US. Anyway, it's interesting and fun to watch.

A few seasons ago they had bit of drone footage - generally, much closer up, than that far above footage, much like Spider cam footage.

But, it suddenly stopped, with no explanation.

I've always thought that perhaps one might have took a 'dive' and sconed a spectator.........Dry I've noticed a (tiny) bit of it coming back, but mostly with podium footage, not racing footage.

I rode a practice day at Mantova a long long time ago and went to see a 500 GP in 1999. Super fun track

That's a great alternant view of the track and racing. Just needs to be a little bit of a closer view.

I think that in the US, a bunch of “commercial licensing” regulations started being implemented that have made it really expensive and/or confusing to do those types of things.

No, it's one of the tracks they could get to try to get through the 2020 season.

You could also ask if WW Ranch is one of the best tracks in America - because I guess you are putting s**t on Mantova because it's on flat ground, and WW Ranch is flat as a tack, too? To Americans that might throw a tizzy over that, I like WW Ranch - I accept the terrain an area has, and what the owners / builders do to have a good track on that terrain..

Cripes, so many uniformed wankers see Lommel before a race and bitch about it - dismissing it as being nothing but a bit of flat, bottomless sand in a light industrial area in Belgium, and display their idiocy through that. Yet, it's one of the Greatest GP Tracks on Earth.

Does Fat Cat compare well to say, Matterley Basin, Farleigh Castle, Hawkstone Park or Desert Martin? Yet, it is pretty good in and of itself.

I can officially say, having ridden it , Fat Cat sucks balls. But it is the British version of Lommel, which is basically a place that will always be open, irrespective of the weather, but it is a joyless place to be.

Its where UK guys go and try and bust laps out in the winter, because everywhere else is shut.

I'd gathered that Fat Cat was "a joyless place to be", through a fair bit of reportage I'd read.

"All Weather Tracks" tend to be that way.

Years (and years) ago, I went to Dunkerque (sp?) in France and found it a bit "joyless". I've even been on Lommel a few times, and that was (especially) "Joyless", too. Vicious, bottomless sand, is not much fun for an old Bear, but bloody hell, it brings your appreciation for the Riders Skills and Efforts on those tracks, up a lot of notches.

The thing with just hearing about tracks, is that they get to be imagined as something they arent... Dunkirk, as you say, is just a flat bit of coastal sand , but is probably one of the hardest places you will ever ride.

We went to Lake Elsinore and were a bit ' is this it'

Fatcats is a great track! Not all tracks have to be natural and hilly you know. My local track and one ive grown up racing at for the last 20years is lyng but i enjoy fatcats just as much.
I dont get why people hate on man made tracks so much?

Lyng is one of best tracks in the UK, IMO, you guys in the east have some great tracks, i am too old now to want to spend all day riding ruts, so i will leave it to those who do.

Well
As someone that's old enough to have been to Farleigh, Hawstone, Namur, Kailsdorf, Dodington, Fox & Hounds, Valkenswaard & Kilmartin GP tracks, plus countless UK national tracks. Whilst I may be a wanker, actually not that uninformed.

You actually answered my question in the first line. THe rest was superfluous macho BS

I like this shot, maybe a bit closer up to the track but it is a nice shot. Imagine in a normal season we'd have thousands of fans around the track, which adds some extra atmosphere to the images imagine.

Imo it would add something to the broadcast when used for 2 specific reasons:
* show the track and atmosphere pre-race
* show the difference in track position between 2 title contenders. For example in Valkenswaard 2018 (?) when Herlings made up 15 seconds on Cairoli to take the win in the final laps. He closed the gap in like 10 laps and imo it would have been awesome to use this cam every 2 laps to show how that difference was getting closer and closer.

I certainely would not want to see this shot when the race starts to be honest though.
