Baja Acres had to close the gates last night and reopen them this morning due to the massive turnout.




Corona sucks but its put some serious money back into motocross. What gives?

I wouldn't think 1200 had much to do with it.

Free time and the thought of "we are never promised tomorrow" probably had a lot to do with it.

People were looking for more “social distancing” type activities during Covid...(mx, boats, RV, UTV, ATV..etc). I do think it will create some new permanent riders, but I suspect this is temporary and this bump in interest will fade quickly..

Problem now is you have a bunch of new boat owners, rv owners, mx bike owners who way over-paid for shit and will be under water..

Agreed. A dealership here said they usually carry around 150 units between bikes, boats, atvs, ect. They are down to 30 units and can't get more right now.

Not going to lie. I'm hoping to find some really good deals on peoples "impulse buys" in the next few months.

Here’s my uneducated opinion.

Travel baseball, soccer, youth football, etc..... they are all year round commitments now.

It’s damn near impossible for kids to be multi sport athletes - so many have chosen stick and ball over moto. If I ever have kids, I’m pushing for golf for college sports/scholarships.

All of those sports are postponed/canceled around me. And I’m 25 minutes from Baja..... I think it has been and will always be a TIME issue, not money.... and folks are bored right now.

A lot of people cancelled vacations this year and that is big money too. Tickets for 4 to Disney just to get in the park is around $2k and that doesn't include travel or lodging/food cost. Cancel a Disney trip and you can buy a bike or a couple of kids bikes.

My buddy is a mechanic for a bicycle shop. They have a "main section" of new bicycles for sale, which is an area usually of 50 bicycles. They have 6 new bicycles and 40 repairs in line to be done.

People are definitely throwing cash around. Look at craigslist and Facebook Marketplace ad prices. A few people are asking $1,000 for blown up OLD bikes from the 90's.

I saw a picture of the line of traffic getting into that race last night. Pretty wild. But good that people are out riding at least.

Last time i checked hockey, baseball and basketball are still on TV. Football starts next week. I'm not really sure what you're getting at?

Motorcycle dealers are reeling. They have made record profits on bikes for the last 4 months and cannot get enough product right now. It will all turn sideways when the new product supply catches up with the demand and then tons of repos and "no longer interested" used bikes flood the market. Get ready to buy slightly used bikes at a big discount late this winter into early spring!

New 2020 450 for sale, less than one hour on it. Bought it to ride with the kids, way too much power. Needs a new rear fender, otherwise perfect.

I’ve seen the same in my area for powersports items as well. My friend owns a local bike shop and has sold literally everything but a $6500 USED Felt MTB. He said people who have never rode before were coming in and swiping the CC for anything that was available, including higher end stuff. He has been unable to get new stock either.

I am not an economist by any stretch, but I don’t think we have fully realized the economic implications of this year’s events. I think there will be a lot of new bikes, SXS’s, MTBs, ect, hitting the used market within the next 6 to 8 months, when the government turns off the unemployment faucet and the landlord comes knocking. I think people will be asking top dollar and nothing will move, then the market will tank, and there will be good deals to be had. That might be the time when barriers to entry into our sport are low, assuming you have the cash.

If you guys are right about the used bike market imploding in six months you better sell stuff now or take a bath on it later. It won’t just affect this summers new buyers.

A common theme when these type topics were discussed before was video games and the impact they had on kids getting outdoors and riding.

Does anyone know if that market has experienced the type of uptick that our sport has? I'm not a gamer but I would have to imagine between having extra time and safety from the virus that its also got a decent bump but I haven't heard any stories of lines at the game stores other than maybe a newly released console that was hot but that's nothing new.

Can any gamers advise?

The people with extra money now are hating that everything is shut down because they have the cash to travel and go have fun. The people who are broke are ok with everything being shut down.

I have been thinking about letting go of my 2018 YZ450 once the season winds down for this exact reason. I'm also worried 2021's will be gone by the time I'm ready to buy.
