Unpopular opinion - Tear Offs

It's actually a valid question. I felt like a douche using them for a hare scramble in the PNW. I forgot my roll-offs and had to use tear-offs instead. I didn't like tossing them in the forest.

A private motocross track is a different story I suppose. They are littered all over Washougal after a race, especially at the track exit. Maybe instead of dumping your remaining tear-offs at the finish, hold on to them and toss them in the trash?

Never understood the logic behind “it’s not the biggest problem so why worry about it” mentality.
I know a few tracks over here that banned them a long time ago, especially those on farmers land. I wonder if the same guys walk around the pits throwing their food wrappers on the floor, its only a small bit of rubbish.

Yes, tearoffs should be our number 1 concern, Can't you see how many tearoffs there are in these pictures?? Lets just have a little perspective here...

honestly dude, that's a shitty attitude to have. Just because there's something worse out there, it doesn't mean you can't do your part to attenuate a problem. There's always going to be someone drunker on the road, but are you going to go out and drive drunk just because of that? I could make a million other examples...
In the case of tear offs, ask yourself: would you throw tearoffs all over your house and be ok with it? I try to treat the world like it's my house, it's not always possible I know, but I make that effort at least.

I fully support a track that bans them and I wouldn't complain one bit, I was just providing some perspective for people. In my opinion, there are bigger (trash) issues that need to be addressed before we go after one of the smallest sources.

You are making a lot of assumptions about how I view/use tearoffs. Using tearoffs on public property (national forest, blm etc, is littering. Using them on private property (MX track) is up to the landowner to decide how they manage their garbage.

How is the attitude of reducing larger scale trash a shitty attitude? Ask yourself that.

I think it’s just down to necessity for me, there are other effective alternatives that mean it is just as pointless as throwing your trash on the floor next to a bin rather than in it.

You could look at it from that perspective, needing to start from the top down. But with the top being such a monumental task, does starting with a small easily attainable step make the next step seem more attainable, then the next, etc? I agree there are much bigger fish to fry but keeping the attitude of "no problem to small" isn't a bad thing.

Understandable, I ended up chucking the Airbrakes on the shelf because the roll off system was so poor.

Fer cryin' out loud. It's time tear offs were gone. I took my granddaughter on a vacation to California a few weeks ago. She's a total rock hound. We stopped at a pebble beach to swim and goof. The entire beach was beautiful polished pebbles but the posted signs said removal of pebbles was prohibited. She insisted they wouldn't miss a bag full. I had to explain that if the other million visitors said the same thing the beach would be gone in no time. Same with trash. Your little bit is nothing but...multiply it by however many and it becomes a problem. The snowflake has spoken.

I don't race anymore, so I pull them at the truck and put them in the bin. I just use them to keep the lens clean during the day. They're wasteful for sure, though.

Fuel is wasteful but serves a purpose. Same as tear-offs. Tires as well.

The total impact on the worlds total garbage issue is irrelevant. Why are we throwing trash on our own tracks?

Bio degradable tear offs are a great idea until it rains. Itd be fun when you get a stack of 21 mold into 1Cool

If you enviro-nuts think I am going to the track with a butt plug to keep harmful fumes out of the air, ... I'm not doing it. Pick up what you can, disc the rest into the dirt. They aren't any worse than rocks.
Ever see all the trash after the last pro Moto at a national? Tear offs are a minor problem compared to the lazy slobs in the spectator areas.

I’m no geologist but how are rocks damaging the planet?

Well I suppose you could look at it like that, not sure that really applies to somewhere like the Netherlands. They didn’t ban them coz their tyres are getting worn out.
