He stated before the season started that he's playing the long game and not looking to dominate and risk injury. Winning by two seconds claims the same points as winning by 30 seconds so he's no longer looking to put in dominating rides any more.

He has a healthy points lead already so his plan is working.
The plan for sure seems to be working. Still, looking at his style at Valkenswaard and both rounds in Latvia he doesnt look like the old Herlings (yet?), he doesnt look like someone who could put 30+secs on all riders with ease. Stiff, looks like he has to work very hard to get this speed.

Looks like New Zealander Dylan Walsh is in for the third GP at Latvia this weekend. He takes the place of retired Julien Lieber at JM Honda Racing.

Everyone's been sharing this saying how huge it is, but I think they've reversed the track back to how it used to be? So this will be a step down into a double... I could be wrong though?

From my understanding from Malin on MXGP they not gonna run the track reverse.. Biggest changes will be behind the pit area.

This will be more a uphill dubble and bigger single into that corner to change it up.

I don't think it's that everyone has stepped up, Herlings simply doesnt look as good as in 2018. Same in Valkenswaard.
I agree. JH is off.

But if he had a concussion - which I’ve heard people say - then that will affect him for a long time, even if he doesn’t realise.

That will account for the past 2 rounds but what was wrong with him at Rd 1 & 2 ?

Maybe he was sticking to his plan of dialing back a bit. He still had the point lead.

He won both those rounds, so my guess? Little to nothing.

I can’t disagree with either you or ATK but to me he just looks off. At times he’s struggling to come through the pack, maybe I just used to him destroying the field.

Edit Herlings never loses a race at home, he definitely wasn’t right there.

Well he did win Valkenswaard moto2 with over 1m35 on 3rd place (Jasikonis). And yes he didnt win moto1 but still had 50sec over 4th place.

Gajser was just extremely impresive in Valkenswaard and Herlings was good but surely not 2018 good.

People cling onto his 250 days too much and just don't realize just how fast Gajser is. He's going up against one of the greatest to ever ride a dirt bike (Cairoli) an absolute legend in the making (Gajser) guys who have won multiple GPs (guys like Paulin and Desalle) and of course former champ Febvre. Hes literally racing the cream of the crop in the MXGPs now. Regardless, hes now got a solid points lead. Don't be shocked if he "settles" for a 3rd place every now and then.

Yeah exactly. Regardless of TC and TG, he was beating all these other guys by a lot in 2018. Not this year.

With Jeffrey it's a little bit of both.

He told dutch Television not too long ago in a talk show his foot is still problematic and he can't jog or run for example.
Also he is committed to win another championship and to stay healthy he decided to not destroy the complete field of riders, but ride smart and back off if it's the best decision.

Gajser, Cairoli and Febvre all had injury issues in 2018. Im not saying those guys are better than Herlings but they are the reason why Herlings isn't winning by 50 seconds every single race.

During the race you saw Jasikonis flying to that straight whoops like a madman, that 's how i normally saw Herlings go through it.

I'm Guessing Herlings is still about 90%, and the rest is riding like crazy. Seewer looks very strong.

People tend to forget that Herlings suffered around 10 serious injuries the past 7 seasons. One of them almost costed him his leg. The pace he was racing at, gapping his competitors to a minute or more, is something that cannot be sustained for an entire career. The sport in general already takes its toll on your body, and injuries even more.

Plus, he's not 16 years old anymore. The older, the wiser, isn't it?

Hopefully he is! Pitboard wrote "Head" after his crash. So they definitely wanted him to think lol.

Herlings
2010 - Dislocated Shoulder
2011 - Ribs (with a buggy)
2012 - Ribs and head (car crash)
2013 - Broken shoulder after becoming world champ
2014 - Broken leg
2015 - Dislocated hip, broken pinky, broken collarbone
2016 - Broken collarbone (still world champ)
2017 - Broken hand
2018 - Broken collarbone (still world champ)
2019 - Broken ankle
2020 - Concussion

He is a 4 time champ, could have been 4 more

Gajser
Crashes like a mad man, no injuriesGrinning

Even more crazy to think he is only pro for a few years. Never rode GPs on 250s and no team wanted to give him a shot until Everts puts him on that Suzuki ride.

He has come along way since then, especially fitness wise. Always been fast but now he can handle it the whole moto!

It's not reversed. I wonder if they will be able to triple it, i just don't understand how they are supposed to get enough speed through the sweeper before in race conditions?

The take off just seems too short/low? Add 1 meter on height and it should be possible?

Everts (as a team manager)gets a lot of hate.
But he perfectly knows how to spot talent.
Is there actually one rider who proved him wrong?

that take off is way too steep for a triple. Plus there will be lots of ruts and as you said the sweeper just before the take off
