Only raced a handful of times over the years . Maybe 10 times all mx . I enjoy hitting the trails and woods more
Maybe I should try a hare scramble.

Any of you guys figured out how many times you've been injured racing? I'm curious as to the injury/hours racing ratio.

Enough to know it hurts. If it weren't for wrist's knees and back... Oh yes, shoulder too. I'd be racing forevermore. Am going trail riding with my friend on his pristine 82 IT 465, and, his 96 WR 250. This week. Smile

Mom?!? Is that you?

J/k, good question!

For me, the bulk of my riding injuries have been from stupid ideas while trail riding. “I’ll jump that washout easy” or “I think I see a great line down that cliff/hill, follow me!” or “I can see enough through this dust”. Mostly during my 20s and 30s, riding with a younger body and unrealistic confidence. And even those injuries haven’t been as bad as I probably deserved.

Out of the 140 or so races, I’ve failed to finish due to injury twice. One was a cartwheel to faceplant move that had me out for about 10 minutes at Sunrise raceway in 92, the other was a twisted knee at Glen Helen in 93.

I’m completely confident that the other guys in this thread can blow my pathetic injury stories out of the water..

About 10+ per year from '85 to '87, then maybe twice in '88 and once in '90. Call it 35. Then a few times in '95, followed by 20 per year from '96 to '99. Let's say 80. From 2000 to 2007 I probably did 10 per year again, so 80 more. I've inly raced sporadically since then; about 5 times or fewer.
35+80+80+~5=200 times.

I cracked my wrist in a one off hare scrambles race, broke a leg in a first turn crash at Corona in a night race, broke a hand at De Anza when a large rock was flipped up n the air and it nailed my hand. That’s all I can think of in years of racing. Back then it was much different than it is nowadays. No monster whoops, doubles etc.
a large jump put me 5’ off the ground and 20’ in length.

One gate drop for me. 2009 at 27 years old. I was in 2nd after the first turn. 4th into the second corner. Losing a few spots but we’re ok. Then I was the one of 3 guys who didn’t jump the triple in the C/D combined class and saw everyone sail over my head. Back to trail riding it is!
I do remember pulling off behind the winner because he was lapping me as the checkered came out and they were yelling at me to keep going and I told them that no one there wanted to watch me ride around for 2 more minutes by myself rolling stuff so they could keep the show moving 😂

I started racing in 2016, @15yo
I'm at about 30 races, i would have done 2 championship this year with a lot of races but corona fucked up everything.
Planning to do some random races in the next months.

That's a good answer. I'd race more except that as a self-employed guy it's expensive to get hurt. I'm not worried about myself as much as I am you other idiots. My son, for instance, got landed on during the morning SIGHT LAP. He was okay, fortunately, but it crushed his radiator, broke the shroud, etc. We had enough time to go back to the truck and get his 150 SX (instead of the 250F that got landed on). He was REALLY disappointed because it was going to be his first race on the 250F. And THEN, he got snagged in a first turn pile-up.

Me, I sit on the line and let everyone get half-way to the first turn because I don't want to deal with some guy coming in hot and T-boning me in the first turn.

I'd race more if it wasn't for the other idiots on the track. Smile

I hear you about the start, it’s usually the worst for carnage. Couple thoughts, first is move up to the fastest class you can talk your way into, the spaz factor drops a ton every time you move up. The other thing is pick a different kind of race, I rode my first sprint enduro last year, it’s a race against the clock with a rider starting every 30 seconds (?) and it was a really comfortable format. I still like GPs though, that’s always been my favorite format..

Or just get the hole shot and make space behind yourself!

I am thinking into the 3000's.. raced since 74, 20 weekends a year, 4 moto's a day , till 82, thats 700.. then into adult racing, 3 moto's a day 20 weekends a year, from 83 through to 2000, a few years i did less , but if we say 15 a year , thats 900.. then we went to Supermoto from 2002.. got to have done at least 600 in the UK, and then 8 seasons in Germany doing 24 races a year plus another 10 elsewhere , is getting close to another 1000.. and i havent included any MX post 2002, which i have probably done another 100 races at.

Jeez... i wish i'd kept a better record.

I was lucky enough to grow up and race when the sport took off n the US; especially here n So Cal.

From 1972-1982 I would say I averaged 2 a week for a solid 10 years. Back then we had sanctioned high school races and we would race at Corona on Friday nights during the school year. Some of my first races we had 3 motos. Rubber band starts, no gates until around 74-75 if I remember correctly. Once a year on our football field. You could race almost 7 days a week in So Cal with all the night racing going on. The motos were so short I could race a Irwindale night race with its 5 minute motos and not touch my bike for the day race on the weekend. Me and my friends would hit a night race each week and at least a Sunday race, sometimes 3 days in a row. Friday night followed by Sat/Sunday. Racing was so simple back then. Simple maintenance on the 2 Strokes....if you needed to do a top end job it was under a hour 👍

After those years i quit racing but still rode. When I was around 45 I took up vintage racing for around 6-7 years....maybe 7-8 a year. Stopped when I reached 52.

I’d guess around 1050 events....individual motos well over 3,000 since many years I would ride 125/250 classes

You’d have to be a millionaire to do that in 2020. I did it all on my own dime working after school In restaurants and then after I graduated it was funded by my carpentry work.
I lived in north San Diego and must have raced or been at the track on the same days as you. Carlsbad , El Toro Irwindale, Ascot, Saddleback ect Maybe a 100 races for me between 72-76
