How does your local track handle first moto gate pick? Order you sign up? Trackside software random pick? Any other ways?

First come first serve a most of them.
Mammoth - draw from a bucket. Each chip has a gate number on it. Second draw is based on your results from the first race, then first come first serve.

You wouldn't happen to be from District 18, would you?

Local tracks are pretty much always 1st come 1st pic. Second motos are sometimes based on 1st moto finish if they want to go through the trouble.

Bigger tracks/races put more effort into it.

Unadilla uses paint stirring sticks.

My track used to use closepins from a bucket but now they got by who signed up first which is stupid. I liked the closepins in the bucket way better. It was always cool to draw number 1!

We,ve been doing the Trackside random picks for a while, but plan on going back to drawing paint sticks.

We feel it, even though it's purely chance, puts it somewhat back in the rider's hands.

That, and I'm tired of hearing "He gets 1st every time" " We get last every time"...both of which are BS.

Millvile, Texas Winter Nationals, Branson USA, and a few others did first moto gate pic from drawing numbers. Whether it be from clothespin or paint stick.

And 2nd moto was from first moto finish.

I think that is the only fair way. And yes most local tracks go by first come, first serve.

The USRA races around here always did cloths pins from a bucket for first moto, and then finishing position the second...but I haven't done a moto race in about 4 years, so they may have changed since then.

Wow! can't beleive that anyone does not use the number system for first moto pick! In 35 yrs of racing i have never heard of crazy shite like some of you mention. I have mostly ridden d-23 but even our fair races use cloths pins and first moto finish for secon moto pic.

this is how it should be, the old clothespin...nothing like pulling up and reaching in for the coveted 30.

Pagoda is by how you sign up

Most other tracks in D6 are computer random
I swear Happy Ramblers has all their "Members" on the top of the list then the rest to follow.

Local tracks in my area do first come first served for both motos. I’ve only seen the cloths pin thing once 20 years ago. It’s BS that promoters don’t put a little more effort into using some type of system. I hate setting in staging so long just to ensure you there to get the gate you want. Use cloths pins, sign up for the first moto and finish position from the 1st moto for the 2nd moto. It’s not that hard, I did it when I ran a track.

Order you sign up. Online preregistrations come first, then at-track signups.

Yep Ive always had good gate picks at pagoda.Thank you early sign up.

Ramblers 100% makes their members first.I know a few other D6 tracks that arent random.

In Florida Unlimited sports seems pretty random.I think there are a few that get "special treatment" but it seems pretty fair for the most part.

Trackside BLOWS.

Every race I've been apart of, Trackside has screwed up second moto line ups in atleast 2 classes. Some glitch.

At a normal local race for us it is by first come, first serve.

At our National race or when we used to do Mammoth, it was by pre entry for the 1st moto and moto finish after that.

Most likely user error.

I have been using it since the first version in 1997and I don't think we have have ever had that happen.

John Dains is one of the unsung heros of moto.
