Alright guys I'm in a predicament right now, so the wife doesnt care either way but I currently have stock rm plastic with updated rmz front number plate and front fender, trying to decide weather to get the restyle kit and graphics or stay stock and get graphics. Your input is appreciated and will be a huge help. I love stock look with updated front end but the restyle kit I'm back and forth with. Thanks for your help

I personally think the stock plastics look the best. The angles on the restyle just don’t flow that well imo.

Just go with the newer style front fender, and number plate..The rest of the plastics go with the stock look

I did one on a cr and it was kinda of weird. Now I just have the new-restyle rear fender left on the bike. My hang up was graphics. $225 for kit and stickers, only used the rear fender. Don’t know about the rm but on the cr's you almost have to run a shorty silencer or it will look super long coming past the number plate. You almost have to install it before you know you’ll like it. I did mine because all the pictures of them looked really good. Starting new post in 3.. 2.. 1

That's where I'm at with it over 300 for plastic and custom graphics or just spend 160 on graphics and keep it stock. I mean some look super sick but it's the graphics that make the kit.

Just my personal opinion, for what it's worth. I think the restyle kits are a cool idea, but I don't think they look very good in general. For me, it's a weird clash of new and old. It makes the bike look like something it's not and the result is often kind of cheesy. I think borrowing the front fender and number plate from newer bikes can look good, though.

My opinion is Don’t restyle it. Classic bikes are awesome already, and even putting newer or restyled plastics on them usually dosnt make them look new it just makes it look like you put new plastics on an old bike and most times it looks like a shitty Chinese body kit. Very crammed together and the lines are all off. And we can see bike that look new all over they’re called new bikes...but seeing a classic bike that looks like it rolled off a starting line in the early 2000s is definitely a treat to look at. But it’s your bike man whatever you like!

I say keep it stock. The restyle kits are cool but they all have something that looks funny. Specifically the rear fender on the Suzuki. With the correct graphics kit the new restyle kits can look pretty awesome but they still have that clunky point at the sky rear fender

i just did my 05 250. I did the 08-17 front fender with cycra front plate, stock shrouds but then put a 2014 subframe, airbox and plastics on. Looks amazing and was super easy to do! ill get pics this afternoon

Same here, because I've decided no restyle kit but I think the aluminum tank and rmz shrouds look good or stock with updated front and rear.

Personally I really like the OE style and look of the last generation RM.
I have my OE RC edition plastic with graphics. This look is clean and simple... just my .02

Well, after a hour of trying to get logged in I finally did it lol!

I liked the stock look but really wanted something different.

The subframe, airbox, plastics were all off a 2014 RmZ 250.

First off the RM airboot is a direct bolt on to the rmz airbox and needs to be done. I also found having vforce or a rad valve helps since it pushes the carb back 1/2”.

The lower subframe mounts are untouched. I removed the lower exhaust mounting tab and in my case I didn’t use it. The upper mounts needed to be shortened about 42mm and then rewelded back on. I then made two spacers to take up the room where the bolt goes thru as the rmz subframe has a wider opening. You should be able to use the rmz stock upper mounting bolt.

I have a pro circuit r304 shorty and you have to shorten the upper mount 3/4 of a inch. I then used a step bit and drilled it out so I could retain the factory rubber. This then bolts thru the fender mounting hole. Instead of welding on a tab for the second lower mount I made one out of aluminum and it bolts to the rmz exhaust mounting hole. A quick trim on the inside of the exhaust side number plate and it fit perfect. I then used my sdg seat from the rm. a quick trim of the back resting mounts and it bolts on and you would think it’s designed for the bike.

All in all I thought it was super easy and only took about 2 hours to do. I found the subframe and airbox as one on eBay. I think it looks way better than any restyle
Kit.

This looks awesome! Do you have some pics of where you had to cut/reweld the upper mounts? Did that change the angle of the seat and fender?
4/18/2020 11:33am
I dont believe i have any pics at the moment. I took a measurement from the back tire up to the fender on the stock subframe. Then put the lower mounts on the rmz subframe so that i could adjust it to determine the amount i had to cut out which i believe is 40mm. The end of the fender is the same height as the rm was aswell now which worked out perfect. The seat is the same as it was before and looks even better than it did with the rm setup.

So here it is guys, almost finished but really never finished. At least almost finished for summer and after this covid-19 crap, so I can get some laps in on it. Winter will probably be another tear down and maybe set up another color way for graphics for 2021. The only thing that's not on that I'm still waiting for is my seat cover.

Thank you, lol and no I'm not, those are rg3 triple clamps and are supposed to have 4 post bar mount so handle bar is supposed to sit in the middle. They were like that when I got the bike. I actually have the stock clamps but hoping to get ahold of rg3 to get a set of mounts.

Haha I know. And thanks, getting hard to get parts with this covid-19 crap. Worse case I'll go back to stock clamps.

Liking this, nice work man! Lol my first thought was why are the bars way the hell up there? Looks good. I looked for the Mikita Suzuki graphics awhile back and couldn’t find any so I ordered some cheesy attack graphics, they looked a little junked up. Nice bike, time to paint the clutch cover Smile

I put it on mine over the winter but I’m not totally sold on the shrouds. Kinda prefer the original shrouds with the rest of the restyle.

Thanks man, I got these graphics from factory backing for 190 with seat cover but haven't got the seat cover yet. I literally ordered graphics sunday night or Monday and they were at my house Thursday. Just had to wait for a good day to get them on. Lol and yeah maybe get it powder coated along with stock triple clamps. Just in case rg3 dont pull through

Yeah I'd say stock shrouds as well I was really up in the air before I pulled the trigger to stay stock. Restyle kit is just way to pointy imo. Plus I saved $125 to buy some other stuff lol. But I really like that old school look.

You could buy Hoosiers for the price of plastics. They are on sale right now
