What I mean by this is the engine is obviously going in a sled, but sure seems like it would go in a snow bike very well.
Cat tried to do a snowbike by working with Sherco but it fell through. I think they take this 400 engine, build a ground up snowbike, not some conversion thing, and they could take that market over if done right.
Just my thoughts based on pure speculation.
As you said it was a Sherco bike with a Camso kit.
Would be awesome to see them actually build a snowbike with that 400cc 2-stroke motor though.
i have the same sled but its green.
the 7/8th version is an arctic cat blast re-badged as well...and its just ctec2 cut in half (single cylinder 400)
pic of my sled, same thing as this yamaha.

Yes it was a Sherco with a Camso kit added on. However Cat also did a couple things. One, developed a dual action master cylinder for the left hand, actuates the rear brake first, then the clutch. Think Hayes actually made the dual action master for Cat. Was needed since sleds require a left hand brake. Made some new plastics to better cover exhaust and other components since sleds have some weird touch point requirements. Lastly and the one that really killed it was an exhaust system that passed sound requirements. When the exhaust passed sound the engine made no power and the muffler was so heavy it broke sub frames.

So Yamaha make a deal with Artic Cat for the Engine (just like you did for the Snowmobile), and insert it into a YZ 250F Frame, what are you waiting ON, DUH????????

Clickbait was not my intention at all I just thought it was very interesting how they got away from 2-stroke dirt bikes yes I know they still make a YZ250 with old technology.
But unlike some other manufacturers the Japanese have not updated the 2-stroke dirt bike line yet they come out with this, that was my point.
MX & Off-Road Sport would grow again with this Bike!
meaning...if you ride it at 0 altitude the turbo is useless. as you climb in altitude, the turbo generates boost to compensate. its actually quite ingenious system.
running 2 stroke turbos at sea level is the big hang up...need really high octane for them to run without detonation. this new skidoo functions at all elevations on pump gas.

Someone needs to come and take her off my hands she's collecting dust!
(I'm moist now)... lol....
I'll take this opportunity to once again mention a company that HAS most recently developed a brand new 2 stroke engine for dirt bikes. You know, Beta. There is of course Team Austria, TM and Sherco also cranking out fresh 2t product, for things with 2 wheels.
Pit Row
btw why is your name "Johnny Depp" you sure don't look like him, I think you should change it!
Yeh, he has given us a bad name lately. When I ordered my Beta BYOB they offer a name plate "custom built for", but my last name with 13 letters wouldn't fit, so it got shortened to fit. Started using it in forums so I could remember how to log in. It's John Depperschmidt, JD to most. I still find it kinda weird that people use alias's online. I mean what is a G-Man?
That Icon photo is with some Red Bull girls who I found in the crowd of a bar in Austin the weekend of the MotoGP, I think they make me look good.. Not sure if they really believed I was with the team...
My old buddy gave me that name.
First name is Gary
For comparison to that KTM250SX-F: I just placed a current YZ250 engine on a reasonably accurate bathroom scale and read 54 pounds (with everything but the carburetor).
