Watched the on board with Kenny and he did hit it going into corner.
It was stuck out and no way for him to avoid it. Probably cost him the win. Maybe.

Has to be frustrating for him.

Tough block didn't make him give up an 11 sec lead.

I really don't know why they even use them.

I'm a KR fan, but that tuff block wasn't the reason he lost. Let's be reasonable here....wait...is that allowed on Vital?

KR didn’t hit the tuffblock going into the corner, he lost his balance and bobbled half way around the corner, dabs his foot, and then leaned/fell into it. I watched Kenny’s GoPro video on YouTube and they show the tuffblock on lap 11, as well as the lap where Kenny lost his balance in the corner and fell into//hit it... the tuffblock was in the EXACT same spot both laps. I also watched the nbc race replay and it was in the same spot lap after lap prior to the bobble. After the race NBC sports showed a replay from a diff angle and you can clearly see KR bobble before it, put down his foot, and fall into it.

Need the Acerbis markers like during Nationals. I feel like Tuff blocks are more of a danger than anything else.

Advertising and a hell of a lot easier to truck around the country than hay bales. Occasionally they do help break a fall , but more often cause them.

It seems we have to have an excuse to very time with Kenny. Maybe he just got beat we don’t need excuses when he wins.

Tuff Block threads pop up every single year for the past 15 plus years I've been visiting this site. Quite often they are participated in by certain industry"insider" types who call members stupid and say that if the riders don't want to crash, they shouldn't hit the tuff blocks.

And we wonder why moto flounders.

Oh, and outdoor tracks don't need any clear runoff room alongside the track and should always have corners clearly marked by trees...Whistling

What would you use to separate the different lanes of the SX track ? No tough blocks and you fly into on coming traffic. People complain because it stops a rider when they hit or land on one, well no shit that is the point. In SX you have limited amounts of floor space so opposite directions of traffic are only a few feet from each other at times and that is where the tough bock comes in. In road racing you lots of run out and over run areas but you dont have that luxury on a SX track that is moved from stadium to stadium every week. They are there for more than advertising and they do a pretty good job.

So what is your solution to fix the problem?

There aren’t any smart tough blocks, that’s for sure.

Kenny rides a certain race while in the lead. Very in control and 99% of riders can’t match that. When Eli starts pushing to another level it’s when Kenny gives up time. I was more impressed he finally pushed his comfort level after the fall. This is a clear sign he is feeling better mentally and starting to break through that “wall”

My solution is the same as it has always been. Softer foam, tapered shape, inflatables. Just making them a triangular shape would make it possible to transport twice as many or more in an 18 wheeler and the angle of the sides would make the advertisement more visible to the fans and cameras as well as make it less likely to snag a wheel or peg. It's so simple it's painful to see the same shit pop up year after year. And it doesn't take a "genius" (nice edit by the way)to figure it out. Even a simpleton such as myself can figure it out , must be all that skunkweed in the air clouding your vision.Tongue

As for the outdoors, from Loretta's to the nationals, in the hundreds of acres there is to build a track, why do we still see haybales and old mattresses tied to trees to mark the inside of a corner? Again, even a blind man can see how easy it is.

They should have a strip of Velcro stitched to the bottom so they can be linked together in a way that they won't be displaced so easily but also don't present a greater threat than they usually are. Triangular blocks would work in corners but square blocks have saved alot of riders from landing harder in rhythms and whoops.

Eli was 11 seconds back and had fast riders to pass to even get to Kenny. The tough block only cost Kenny a second at best.
Buy his extra effort after getting passed is a great sign for future races.

?? Kenny said that result was his fault as he backed it down a bit, then Eli came and he could not respond

In SX the tough blocks are there to slow down or hopefully stop a rider from going off into a different lane or on coming traffic, would you rather see more riders going head on into oncoming traffic ? They need to be heavy and at least slow down a bike, they are not just for advertising. You see riders jumping off the track and coming to a almost dead stop when they land on one, that's what they are suppose to do, inflatable one wouldn't do the job and as far as I know no one is complaining about transporting them from race to race. and its no different than any other type of racing, you don't want to hit the walls barriers sand traps, tire walls, concrete walls, trees , rocks, buildings. Not every track is in the middle of barren earth.
