My Purpose:
Is to promote available Big Bores, 300 or 325. I wish a 350 or 400cc was available (Probably don't need bigger)
Lightweight 300/325 cc 2-Strokes are the ANSWER for 75% of the Riders who need inexpensive MX/SX/Off-Road Motorcycles. Athena, ESR, LA Sleeve, Tom Morgan, Eric Gorr all have a Big Bore Kits that work, some better than others.
But ESR's Cylinder Kit (ESR 325 CEO kit (Mike Alessi) WON the Monster Energy Cup (MEC, LCQ), finished 19th overall), is the BEST VALUE for the Money!
----------------In my mind a 250 is to SMALL for most of us, not enough Torque on the Bottom There is no replacement for Displacement!------------------------------------------------------
Just to offer Options:
-Eric Gorr uses your Cylinder to Big Bore to 293 cc, ($660), Torque slightly less than an ESR 325 (HP Kick in last 2K RPM)
-Athena 293 cc Cylinder Kit: ($1,189) - Won the 2-Stroke Nationals, great Kit, not as much Torques slightly less than an ESR 325
-LA Sleeve ($1,170) 300 cc uses your Cylinder - Good Kit according to MX Action tested, Torque slightly less than an ESR 325
-Tom Morgan 315 cc Bored and Stroked (Est. $2,100) - Raced at Red Bull Straight Rhythm
-ESR 325 CEO Kit $799 or Std Kit $599 - Bolt on Smaller Jest 165 & 42, Hole Shot and WON the Monster Energy Cup LCQ - 19th Overall
There are you other options.
I have looked at all of them and ESR in my mind, has the BEST Value!
This tells me you are too lazy to shift or have poor technique
I have poor technique
And I'm old

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
But the fastest to carry "momentum" is when I stay in 3rd and use Smooth Clutch Action like the 450 guys.
The 325 is way better than a 250 for Off-Road, i am in good shape but older, so .01 Second Change in Lap times means nothing, it's all about FUN!
Sorry go find a Safe Space if you don't like what you hear, or move to China and Censor people like a good little commy!
It's a more cash but it's worth it knowing you have everything fresh and better then OEM. I wonder how many people are throwing ESR cylinders on trashed bottom ends. Not only that, Tom is great and will answer all your questions. I almost went ESR before TMR, but it was difficult getting a hold of anyone.
Multiple calls unanswered, messages never returned and no emails were responded to. All of those things combined were all I ever needed to know about ESR....
I have a 295 kit that I bought about ten years ago and put maybe 15 hours on. Zero problems, plenty of holeshots and I enjoyed racing with it. It is sitting in a box here in my shop because I refuse to buy pistons or parts after the guy completely hosed my buddy's 144 cylinder.
Honestly, outside of my displeasure of seeing my buddy get screwed out of a good casting and $500 plus about six months of time I can be unbiased about the 295 mid/top cylinder...
The Gorr kit ran pretty well upstairs as he really did a lot of work on the ports and head. It pulled a couple teeth smaller rear sprocket, but I've found that I ride the 250 a lot faster around the track.
For what you want, just throw a Bills pipe or a Dubach DRD pipe on the YZ250 with a VF3 reed and a modified head. Run the longest silencer you can and get the jetting dialed in. If you need more, buy a 450F, or buy a 500.
You haven't Ridden an ESR 325, so you cannot comprehend that a 300, 325 or Bigger cc Engine upgrade is better than any 250 will ever be. Linear Torque and HP is what it is all about to help make 2-Strokes "Grow thr Market" , which has nose dived because of F...... expensive 4-Strokes.
This is about promoting the Sport not anyone's individual situation!
I’d bet money I have spent time on more KTM, Husky, Sherco, Beta, Berg and TM big bore smokers than you have. Funny thing is most of my best lap times are on 125’s because I know how to ride a 2 stroke.
And yeah, I still think you are a kook🤦♂️
Pit Row
So GOOD for you! You do know that 300's are a helluva a lot of FUN! I still don't like a 125s or 250s!
So Zerofear66 would not have asked about a 325 if he was not trying to improve his bike. He may not be in the market for a Husky 300 or other 300. He probably has a ---limited amount money--.
ESR provides a BOLT ON $690 - 325 KIT for 250 Honda's, it's for older bikes, it WILL IMPROVE his 250 big time. He might already have a Pipe, Porting and other Mod's, so you don't have a better solution, othen than buy a new bike.
It's a Bolt On with Main Jet dropped from 170 to 165, Pilot from 48 to 42, nothing else changes, it is important to install correctly without any Air Leakage, but my experience is, it is AWESOME FUN!
Zero66 is from Anaheim, if he wants to ride my bike he is welcome anytime! Message me and he can try.
Just trying to promote the 2-Stroke market! You, sounds like your just trying to promote your ego!
This thread went South quick 😆
Thanks to all of you who offered useful input 👍
It did have a better low-mid rpm range with a slight increase in the top end.
I was expecting more up top so I talked to the guy in charge of the engine dept. at the time (05). His response was it’s hard to improve upon the oem cyl. porting specs & engine design.
Have an 06 model I’m currently working with & feel it could use better low end response so I’m going to try different jetting specs. for now.
OP something to consider. The low-mid can be improved upon with mods, but you’ll have to run higher octane fuel.
Forgot to mention I spoke with Eddie a couple of times in the last 3 yrs. & left him a few messages about wanting to buy a 325 ESR kit for the 02-07 CR2. Unfortunately it never happened so I finally gave up. I think he does a lot of the work himself so he’s spread very thin.
Talked to SDTony ESR about a yr. ago over the phone & he had some good feed back on the kit. I know he gets a lot of crap on this forum, but he is just another moto guy like most of us on here. With the exception of the TMZ gang..
