I got a brand new YZ250 and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

How much did you get your YZ for, out the door? Realizing today that I should've thrown "New YZ250" into the poll since I'm seeing some on cycletrader for only $6K, and I'm starting to consider those too. Saw some 250SX's for like $6,300 too though, so I'm curious what people are actually paying for these new (or leftover new) 250's when it's all said and done.

Adding a PC pipe and factory 304 will curb this also

Buy a new yz250 as you will never have to mess with jetting, suspension, or anything else on the bike. The yz250 will also outlast an Austrian bike.

So I finally sold the 450, and I'm ready to pull the trigger on a two stroke. With all the craziness and uncertainty going on, I'm going to try to work with the $3,800 I got for the 450, so KTM is out the window. I've been looking at used YZ's, but they're all priced so high for the condition that they're in, from what I'm seeing on Craigslist.

That said, I've got a guy who offered a pretty mint '05 CR250R in my price range and I was thinking about going that route. You two stroke guys think this might be a bad idea? Should I keep searching for a YZ?

No matter how you slice it the YZ will be cheaper in the long run. Parts forever!

The 05-07 CR250s are excellent bikes. I have had one since new - it now has about 250 hours on it and looks and runs perfect. Just put a new crank in it last year. It's the best handling 250 I've ridden, and as others have mentioned, careful jetting and tuning make it a formidable motor. For comparison, I rented a new YZ250 last year on a trip to CA. The YZ was good, but overall, I thought it was inferior to my CR. Less stable, far less accurate steering, and while it had more low end than my CR, the CR would walk it from mid-range up. I would have no hesitation about buying the '05 CR (or an RM, which is also a nice bike).

Keep searching for a YZ 250 Year model 2006 or newer! It will be the last Platform you will need for 10 Years!

When I do a Husky or KTM demo...it's ALWAYS the 125s that make me smile. They're faster & not really any harder to ride than the 150s (SX/TC models).

When it comes to 150s...for the sake of usuable power...it's the HuskyTE150 that I like since it seems to think it's a little thumper.

In the 250s, I REALLY like the Huksy TX. It's fast as hell and is able to do anyhting from Moto to trail-riding.

So Tony, you're saying go with a CR? Got it.

On a serious note, I fought the urge to pull the trigger on the CR and am going to look at an '18 YZ on Sunday for a little over $4K.

Whole state locks down for a few weeks on Monday, so hopefully this bike works out for me this weekend, or I'm bikeless for a while... and I need something to tinker with while I'm working from home to help me from going insane.

I bought my 2007 for $3,500. Not bad but it had an FMF Pipe, High Compression Piston, Vortex Ignition, V-Force Reed Valve and a few other things. And Race Tech mildly Reworked Suspension.

Because Yamaha is "Still building a 250" it is a Better choice over Honda!

05+ RM250 if you steer with your front wheel. 2006+ YZ 250 if you steer better with the rear wheel. Both great bikes.

I've written a few in-depth posts (check my comment history) talking about the 2017+ generation Husqvarna's and KTM 250's. Highly recommended.

Cheers.

Before I give you my vote I'll list my last few bikes.
2019 kx250f
2014 rmz250
2011 yz250f
2007 yz144 (Eric Gore)
2004 kx125
2003 rm250

If you want to go 2 stroke my vote is for a ktm 150. The difference in power between my kx125 and the yz144 was eye opening. I imagine the difference between the 144 and a new ktm 150 will be at least as much. The 125/150 is so much fun and exciting to ride but difficult. Different riding style than a four stroke, as you already know. The 250f is fun and easy to ride. The 250 2 stroke is fun and scary lol.

Must be nice. Those are unicorns are here. Cheaper to buy new. Going to check out Cernics once I can travel. Used bikes are too pricey here.
