What the OP suggests is a great idea and there’s been a few over the years and I’ve found them very helpful when going to another state. For Canadians coming south in the winter would be useful. FB and Instagram have somewhat superseded the usefulness IMHO.

I had a nerd flare up a couple years ago and in about 2 min came up with a track ranking system.

MX track ranking system (10 items, 5 points max each) this example = 4.15

4.5 Fun/thrill factor (speed & jumps)
4 Challenge/difficulty/roughness
5 Quality of dirt
5 Quality of prep including water thru day
3.5 Facilities main (bathrooms/showers/water/speakers/announcing/RV hook-ups/parking)
3.5 Facilities bonus (bike wash/music/shade/food&drinks/parts store)
3.5 Bang for buck practice/racing (efficiency)
3.5 Near restaurants, grocery, entertainment
4.5 Hospitality
4.5 Safety

Some things you can hold against the track and others you really can’t - I’ll take good dirt over a bike wash and I’ll take a...

Yup. All I care about is good dirt, good flow, good prep, some open riding days, a safe feeling on the track and good relationship with the local govt and property owners.. The tracks around here that stay open are the ones that cover those first.

Great idea, could be done in different ways. Film the road trip, couple stops with local attractions, breakfast at the track, then race track on a 125. Stop at a Lake for a wash up and swim, driving into sunset. Race in every state, or 28 states since most people don,t know there is 48 in the lower USA. Must include adorable hot chic, on all rd trips

I've had very similar Thoughts, How about a team of 3-4 young guys with a Camera , you could do it as a YouTube Channel, Shoot Video, interview the owners. Give a tour of the place etc.

Low budget- so no starting gate. Hand-on-helmet or other methods, instead. Etc.
Those exist, they're called Hare Scrambles!
Yeah, I know! Need more! Smile

Like the idea but how many good tracks would get passed because they arent known? If you ain't from N Ga, you probably dont know about the track in shannon. No amenities, no prep, always hard packed and dusty. But the layout is awesome.

Itd just end up being tracks with an online presence, and those are gonna be the typical prepped track with a bathroom, food, bike washes, and so on.
I agree. With everyone wanting different things outb of a track it would be very difficult. LTMX is my favorite track, not super jumpy and kind of a hole in the wall place but damn is that place fun. I’d ride it over Redbud any day.

All MX needs is people who are into MX. That is the fundamental problem. Not enough people are into riding dirt bikes...let alone racing them.

You don't see magazines / websites doing track reviews because they all ride the same tracks in Southern California. It would be cool for them to send someone out / pay someone to go to tracks in other states and do a review. We all know about the tracks within an hour or so of us, but it would be nice to have a professional review about tracks that are a three to four hour drive, as I would make the drive if I knew it was worth it.

Rider planet should have a review system as well.

This^. That way you'd know if the place was worth the drive.
Add a forum to the website so that Joe Schmoe racer could have input with they're opinion.
Call it Motodrive.

Won't take long to do this either since there are about 7 tracks left in the US.

Well what we really need are $4k bikes, but I don't think that is on the horizon haha!!

Since moving to SC, I've been posting ride and race videos from all the tracks I go to on my YouTube. It isnt really a comprehensive review, but I have thought about doing something like that. Finding gopro on YouTube has been extremely valuable to me when I am getting ready to visit new tracks. I can tell which ones will be fun for me and which ones I'm not interested in.

It would be cool to crowd source this on the YouTube platform- maybe come up with a standard rating and naming / branding convention, and then let it take a life of its own. Or develop a list of "Vital endorsed" reviewers- you have to be able to get around the track with some competence and also provide some coherent and consistent info in the written review.

Exactly. I have the money to ride and race (Finally) but these tracks are insane. I dont want to huck every jump because guess what - I have to get back to my middle class job monday.

I am not saying that we don't need high calibler tracks. We need both. We need grass roots and high caliber.

The problem is tracks dont make any money. Race fees have not come up that much.

I am friends with a former track owner. Race fees were $30.

He close two years ago. Accountant told him the only things to do: Close or charge $70 per class.

I think supercross the will become like MotoGP or F1 in that streetbike and car racing is at a really low level but the top of the sport is absolutely huge!

The question then becomes how are the teams funded? If bike sales get so low?

Does field try and make SX more like monster trucks where they are more heavily involved in the vehicle side and it’s more a novelty than a racing series. That would be really sad I think

I’m going to inspect Mount Monster in Alabama tomorrow, I’ll issue a full review later. If my bike doesn’t get stolen from my hotel here.... I ended up taking the Employee Of The Years’ spot.
