So I should snatch it up for $250. Im r6'1-6'2 so about the same height as you. I noticed that it has flat bars. I figured I would pick up a set of 3" rise bars and be set.

Flat bars feel better on trails, more forward positioning. Get some rise if you are jumping, bring your body position back a bit, more upright

A dj bike is basically a BMX bike with front suspension. The hardest part about building a bike with a horizontal drop out, is getting the proper front chain ring, to rear chain ring alignment. Chain tension is easy as you just pull the axle back in the drop outs. If you ride hard and lots, then you can build up a bike as you are constantly fixing and placing parts on a weekly basis, like I do as I have a family that all ride DH and enduro. All 4 of us also race BMX, I build all of our bikes from ground up. If you can find a nice mid-end hard tail/dual suspension bike with fox 32 or better forks, its not much work to swap front ends, put a single speed conversion kit on the rear wheel, install a set of cranks, a rear brake, fit a chain, and rip it.....26' wheels are dirt cheap, if you smash em, replace them.
I literally live in the birth place of freeride mtn biking, and have a world class jump park designed by one of the best riders in North America 3 KM from my shop, and half the people that ride there on hard tails, do exactly what I mentioned. I not talking about throwing parts off a P>O>S XC bike , something half decent. The 26" wheel stuff is so cheap used now days, somebody can buy an older all mtn bike for$ 600-1000 around here.
This is my donor for my upcoming build, its a bad ass mtn bike, but because its a 26", I cant sell it for what I have in it for parts...

I'm going for a dirt jump set up for Rays MTB and I plan on building a few jumps in the back yard for the boy to jump this summer also. I have a 27" Cannondale and a 29" Specialized for riding in the trails.

I got a response from the seller. He thinks it might be to compact with a 22" top tube for me at my height.

Depends on your comfort zone. I ride bmx and moto. I have an S@M Speed Wagon bmx frame, 22" top tube with a 57mm stem so it isnt quite as long. My dj frames are 22" top tube to have that feel closer to bmx than a mtn bike. I used to own a bike shop, always had salesmen from manufacturers tell me i was buying the wrong frame sizes. Mtn bikes i would run 19's instead of 21's like the charts would say were for my size. A 21 was just too big. If the bike is close to you, go test it out. At rays, a longer frame will feel more awkward

I rode bmx until 24ish... Im 35 now lol. Went to MTB in the woods at 27ish. Went to rays a few times and loved jumping like back in my young days. Lol. Plus it gives me something to do with my 8 year old.

The Trek I post is what Rays rents. So that why Im willing to go that much knowing that I like the frame set up.

That would be a terrible dirt jumper. I know cause I’ve tried with that exact bike. It doesn’t work. Full dj drivetrain, no front brake, little stem everything to make it “dirt jumpy” it doesn’t work. Even with locking out the rear it just sucks on real dirt jumps. I took it to whistler with me and it was a blast down A line and some of the mellow trails. Took it to the dirt jumps down at the river and well it sucked. But that bike shouldn’t be converted to a dirt jump bike and it’s not good advice to push someone in that direction. Dirt jumpers are hard tails. It’s almost cheaper to find an old stp or something rather than build up a bike. Bike parts add up quick...

I'm going to buy a dj frame and a single speed kit, and pull the parts off my Reign SX....not Dirt jump on my Reign SX....
I'm going to use the forks, head set, bars, grips, stem, cranks, bb, rear brake, wheels, pedals, seat,

No. Need to know what drive system it is. Shimano or sram. Different spline designs. Shimano has a few different designs, sram has 2 i believe. Several different axle lengths, depends on the frame you get. Some are 135, others are 142. Havent seen any dj frames with a 147. Most are 3/8 axle diameter, 135mm width. Some frames have 12mm skewer dropouts at 142mm width. Buy a single speed cog for the hub and a single speed spacer kit and you can get your chainline pretty close to perfect. If you are taking off a cogset, get a spacer kit for the cassette number, ie: 9sp, 10sp, 11sp. Most dj set ups are going with 170 cranks and a 28-13 gear set

You can get single speed hub as well so you don’t have to finagle anything.

What kind of BMX bike do you mean? What does guys racing BMX, doing DH, and enduro have to do with DJ bikes? Those are all things pretty far off from any real dirt jumping.

That bike you have pictured is death trap on any real DJ/BMX trails in my opinion. It is not a "DJ". That seat position alone scares the hell out of me.

Also, buying a bike from 600-1000 to pull parts from for a DJ is dumb in so many ways. You can buy a complete Transition PBJ brand new for 1,600. A frame alone is 400 bucks...you don't need 1000 bucks in shit MTB parts when you can buy brand new DJ parts for that....

Try searching for "Dirt Jumper" on Offerup.com. I have 5-6 decent ones in my area from 450-600.

Nothing in my area.
I said screw it went to the local shop and ordered the Verde, 645 out the door. Chromo frame, sealed everything, tampered headset.
Forks will be the weak link but I figure if needed I'll upgrade at a later time. Will pick it up Tuesday.
