After trying to play this game a handful of times over the years, I finally downloaded the full version and spent to many hours over the past couple of weeks playing it.

Mainly due to my son continuously watching Kellen's (Start Your Systems track walks).

Only have a cheap ass laptop, so at the moment just have the base download game, was running the keyboard to ride lol and managed to win the novice series with in a few days.

Have a PS4 controller working now, winning the amateur series now and can put laps down on the old 2013 SX tracks.

Ill pick up a gaming PC in the coming weeks and get some more hours in, lol I am determined to master this game.

In the meantime ill kick back and watch this racing a little tonight.

I can’t believe you learned to play it with a keyboard! That’s crazy, a controller is so much more natural feeling and gives you more control.

It’s addicting isn’t it? Which amateur series did you run? The FAMmx SX that just wrapped up?

The physics are unlike any other motocross game. If you want to play a game on visuals alone, then feel free to play any of the Supercross of MXGP games, but if you want realistic gameplay then MX Simulator is your game. It's quite simple, competitive gamers lean towards MX Simulator and casual gamers lean towards the MXGP/Supercross game series. Once you figure out how to maneuver the bike in MX Simulator, there's a lot more room for creativity than the other games you've heard of.

There's also some people in the community with insane graphics settings so it makes the game look a lot better than the helmet cams.

Mx sim has great physics, but that's it. The graphics is shit, or more importantly the game runs like garbage. Sure you can make the game look decent if you wanna play with 10 fps. The UI is terrible. But all these things are easily forgiven due to the fact that the game plays so well. It can be lots of fun.

The one thing that ruins the whole thing is that the community is toxic like no other. I've never during all my years gaming (and that's quite a few at this point, mid 30s) encountered such a hostile playerbase, it's actually insane.

Bro mx sim runs at 125fps on maximum settings. And my computer is from 2014.

Its probably the smoothest game ive ever played.

If you use standard models and textures perhaps. There is no way in the world the game runs at 125 fps with new models and textures now matter what pc you run.

And I'm not your "bro"

Yes it does. A1, highest quality object packs, new bikes etc.. 125fps.

The game is from 2008 or something. Its not BF5 lol.

Bullshit.

It has nothing to do with when the game is made. It's how poorly optimized it is and the fact it only utilizes like one core, poorly.

Well, it's not happening. Someone is lying to you.

Maybe if you are all alone on a track, but even that is very unlikely.

There's a reason the top guys run very low graphics and/or run the old stock models that goes with the game for everyone but their own bike.

Nice riding dude, how come you went from 450 to 250? For some reason I can't make the 250 work for me, front end always feels super tucky and slidey

The level of competition in the 450 class is so high nowadays that I have a better chance at doing better in the 250 class, simple as that. I'll be back on a 450 outdoors, though.

The game is poorly optimized but luckily computer hardware has gotten pretty good to make up for it until the solo developer makes some updates to help. I just went and took an in game screenshot for you to prove that guy wasn't lying. Look in the top left corner. And I agree, it's not the best looking game by today's standards but the actual gameplay, racing and insane amount of customability makes it fun for me and keeps me entertained.

I can post a screenshot later if you still dont believe me.

Sure, on a full gate with terrain deformation it drops to 80/90 but its not a big deal.

I've ran pretty high settings the last three years for the MX series, and had very minimal issues getting 125fps with full gates. First iterations of erode caused some hard frame drops, but it's gotten quite a bit better within the last year. Yes, Ray, I've been using new models/textures as well so it's not completely impossible.

Haha the keyboard was not easy, but it gave me a good base on how to play it.

Actually being older (just in my 40s) The controls and physics were not to unfamiliar, reminded me a lot of the old Test Drive car games from the late 80s!

Sorry not an online series, just the stock points series that comes when you down load the game against the AI,

Need to buy my son a second YZ65, then ill look at getting a PC that will handle the game, at the moment just running my wifes laptop haha, It just runs the game so I am just circulating by myself on basic tracks to get some time in.

Running a PS4 controller now, spent a few hours again last night, managed to get a couple of laps in consecutively around the 2013 San Diego SX track.

I have a long long way to go, but am addicted. Not letting my 8 year old play it until I have it under control, want to be able to beat him for at least a month haha.

This little sidenote really got out of hand didn't it. Let's drop what actual numbers we get and just agree that the game is poorly optimized and doesn't look very good, but like I said in my first post, that doesn't matter. The game still plays so well and it's made by one guy so what can you expect.

I was heavily involved in the community back a few years ago. Ran TMFR, way to ambitious now that I look back at it, for a few years, got forced to pro just before I quit and I started doing a big EU SX stream that I spent way more time than I had on.

But ultimately I just couldn't stand the people. I put so much work in to my stream and my team and yet I got legit hate mails and death threats from these spoiled kids right away. The top pros dictate the tone of the community and when they behave like such assholes it infect all the newcomers and the hole is dug and impossible to get out of.

It's a shame really. It really is a great game and JLV is such a legend.

I agree with you on this. I used to play battlefield tournaments at the national level and from that experience and mx sim, its a common theme. People are so toxic in online games. Going from the real world to video games now days is a shock. Its to the point now where i only play with people i know. And i dont even bother with the MX sim community. Time trial is all i can really play. Online i get punted and the real races are too late at night.

You're right on point. Online gaming is a very toxic environment almost regardless of what you play. Some games more than others of course and just like you say, MX sim is one of the worst. I used to be a public server warrior for a long time but now it's just impossible.
