Ben who?

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 7:24am
What the hell is wrong with BT? Obviously its an injury but WOW How many times has he actually raced on the 450? All these knocks on Hepler being hurt alot yet we see him race. If you ask me, Honda is completley wasting their time. Please fill me in if im wrong.

I believe it's his shoulder and he had surgery on it. 9-12 months of recovery with therapy is what the docs told him to i think. It was giving him some real bad problems from the year before last as well......that's why he didn't run to many rounds last year. I'm sure some more dudes will come in and fill in all the blanks and if missed something.

Get your facts straight before you start bashing Ben. He had knee surgery during SX of 08, a wrist injury, and a shoulder injury as well. He had surgery on his shoulder mid way through the season and then had to recover from that surgery. He healed up from that almost all the way and started testing for SX this year, but was still having problems with shoulder. I'm not sure, but I think it was a bone spur or something that was still causing pain. So he had surgery on his shoulder again around A2 and is still recovering from that surgery. He plans on being back for SX maybe or definitely MX10.

Ben is an amazing rider, but has amazingly bad luck. When healthy, he is the best rider on that team, i don't know about SX, but easily the fastest outdoors. You saw what he did to RV in 07, he would of been the only rider to challenge James last year if he was healthy.

Thats Ben TOWNLEY m*&er f*&ker... One of the most determined and dedicated riders of our time...
A lot of pro "racers" are never 100 %, but never give 100 % percent effort for the championship, just ride to pick up their pay check.. TOWNLEY is NOT one of those "racers"... Hes in it to win it

BT is a nice rider when he is riding but lets face it, BT has been a flop. The guys body is made of glass. He cannot take a hit. When his Honda contract is done so is he.

Wow, some real Townley fans out there. What exactly did he do to Villopoto. RV did win the championship right? And he was in what, his sophmore season?

It doesn't matter how fast you are if you can't stay on the bike.

it looks a bit like tortelli or even my country's j-rod..........they never really got the chance to prove themselves in the usa.....people see that they are fast, they even get some good results but in the end they can't make it big as expected........maybe they trie to hard to be winners, maybe they take too much riscks............

They should of cut him a long time ago. Honda really needs to shell something out if they expect to really have a shot at a championship.

Well...all i can say is "injuries happen". Ben is a super cool dude that has some extreme skills on a bike. He would be a contender for a title in either class on any given day , but he has had some really bad luck. i will say this to , when he's on....HE'S ON! and friggin' flyin!

I wish him the best of luck and a speedy recovery. can't wait to see him ride again.

He is the best rider on that team, but you havent seen it because he has had such bad luck. I've never really seen him ride SX much, but outdoors he is easily as good as James. He beat RC in Budd's Creek in 07 @ the MXDN and has battled and beat Everts multiple times.

He would've challenged Alessi but not James

Granted he is a talented racer and like motokiwi said "He's in it to win it" not to collect paychecks we definitly need more riders at the factory level that actually WANT to win and not "Get paid" thats what separates champions from midpack statistics, but sadly injuries took their toll. Im sure he will be back and hauling some ass in 2010.

Oh here we go. Everyone is all about MXON. How the F@*k do you even know he's the best rider on the team? He has'nt even had a chance to show anything! And people keep talking about "bad luck". Well it has nothing to do with "luck".

Townley's speed is 2007 Lites class speed.

That's all we know. He'll get a chance to prove himself in 2010....but it will be at a far reduced pay.

That's Moto.

Look at it this way...is there any other honda team mate that has ever really given R.C. a challenge? Nobody except K.W. ( and that was rare) has done that....but when B.T. was healthy he did. I don't understand what your reasoning is here dude? Why the hell are you bagging on an injured rider anyways....nothing else better to do? Nothing like kicking a rider when he's down i guess is what get's people off sometimes.....sheeesh.

In most senses its unfair to judge Ben on what has happened versus what could have happened. Hes a great rider with great abilities on a bike. I know Ben only from the track, no more no less, from what I feel about him is; hes a great guy and a great racer that all could learn a thing or two from. I can honestly say that we HAVE NOT seen Bens full potential here in the US versus what he left Europe with. JMHO

That's what i was trying to say as well Sean. I also don't get ( and you i'm sure have experienced bad things said about you ) that kicking a rider when he's down is just not right. If the guy is slacking....then maybe. But when the guy gives it a 100% every time he's out there and is forced to sit on the side due to injury , and then get bashed for it....aint cool. No matter who the rider is. I was always brought up into the racing as a guy who doesn't bash a fallen or injured rider. Or when his performance is down for personal reasons. I think the guys who actually bash racers , are guys who don't race themselves and don't have a clue what could possibly be going on. Racers don't bash other racers. My $.02

pretty sure BT got injured in practice at the 07 MXDN and didn't actually race... with all that being said, he's a top rider and a top person so i'm just hoping that when he returns, he'll show us all what he can do

Didn't beat RC........he beat Windham.

RC was his customary 30 seconds ahead.

He was fast as hell though...why the fuck do ya think Jeanie had him come on down and live/train with them?

FYI: the May issue of Motocross (Italian motocross magazine) reports that BT was able to keep his ride with Honda US for 2010 by forfeiting part of his 2009 salary. Motocross also reports that BT may prepare his comeback at the 2010 Nationals by racing for the Martin Honda team the pre-season races in Europe and the first three GPs of the 2010 World Championship.

It would be Ben's title to lose this summer had he not been derailed by injury plague.
