What are your thoughts on all of this and getting sponsors for yourself? Is it worth paying that premium?

I think it’s free unless you buy the premium package.

But hell yea it’s worth it. Did the Hookit/mxsponsor thing when I was racing regularly and just by spending that 50$ or whatever for the year I’ve saved hundreds if not thousands on stuff I would have bought anyways. Plastics were the main one

I did it and it saved me tons of money. At the time I had Dunlop, Factory Effex, Six Six One, and Gaerne and it was amazing. Just purely for the discounts you can get on the product. I never anything for free off it but it sure helped getting my name out there and bringing my racing cost way down. Dunlop was the best one because tires were 50% off or something like that. Made slapping on a freshy oh so nice!

Support local! I will give springs ( used ) to good, loyal customers. Wal-Mart shoppers, I won't even sell them a used spring. Develop long term relationships with your local dealership, and you will get taken care of. Front end back end; show someone you're loyal, and you will get taken care of. Maybe opposite of the current state of industry, but it does payoff. Just like hard work.

Nope. You pay triple shipping and price comes out to be the same. You might end up with a few bucks off but it’s really not worth it. Can probably find better deals searching around

So the customer has to prove to the shop they are loyal? Shouldn't that be the other way around to get the customer to stay? Most people have gone away from shops because they are tired of them not having what they need in stock and or getting consistently gouged on pricing.

Nope, not at all, the dealers I got could not even order me a main jet. 2 weeks later I call and I ask did my main jet come in, he said no and told me that I should just order it online.

This is the same dealer I bought 2000.00 worth of cr parts the the previous year from.

Most local dealers suck that's the issue, its pretty hard to find a shop that is actually into it and cares the extra effort, when my family owned our dealership / shop for about 15 years I like to think we did a awesome job, I know I tried helping run it growing up but when the economy crash happened in 2006-2007 ish we took a big hit and just couldn't do it anymore, my dad still works on bikes part time for people that were customers forever and can order parts from few places which is good for me too haha.

That being said I use hookit still I have since like 2003, I get plenty of stuff for 40-50% off even better on few things so its worth it, I have never been raped on shipping from anyone I use on there minus tires but that was to be expected.

Oh oil, if you order oil from anyone with a discount you might well forget that, go buy oil from your local dealer lol, I got 50% off maxima ordered 3 gallons of engine oil, some oil filters, and filter oil, $57 bucks worth of product with my discount, after shipping it was $103 bucks so I basically paid retail after shipping, last time I ordered from them they charged me half as much.

FMF is another one that if youre a sponsored rider they have really upped there shipping charges, I ordered a pipe, 1 pipe and was charge $55.00 shipping for ground, for me to ship it back to them in same box would've cost me $25.00

Some deals are better than others. O’Neal and 100% has been really good. Then you have Dunlop that says you’re getting 50% off but only end up saving $5 on a set of tires after shipping. With all the gear sets and goggles I’ve saved a lot of money. Try going direct to companies and apply for sponsorship. Hoosier tire is taking applications now.

Ill stick to Maxima, never had an issue and it doesn't cost me that much more when I get it for dealer cost and don't get raped on shipping lol.

I do have a friend that uses rotella though and he rides a ton and never had an issue, if it ever came down to me not being able to get maxima for the price I do, I will probably switch to Rotella.

Shipping insurance is between $2.75-$3.00 per $100 worth of value. I regularly ship suspension to people who ask why shipping is double what they paid to get it to me.

"Why is it $118 to ship my suspension back when I only paid $61 to get it there? Huh... what do you mean extra insurance on $2500 worth of suspension?"

Thats not the point. The point was, don't expect a "sponsorship" just because. Most dealerships will give discounts on retail, and will increase the discount amount over time/purchase history.

Most companies get discounted rates on shipping. The more you ship the better the discount.

I have never asked a dealership for a sponsorship nor will i ever. All i have ever asked is they be competitive with pricing of online dealers and have stuff in stock. Both of those seem to be tall orders for the dealerships around me.

My only local dealership absolutely does not discount jack. Owners son and former service managers son both raced pro, both made night shows and gates in outdoors. Will not discount anything, not even 5%. They have a 2015 crf450r leftover, whats the OTD price? MSRP plus fees. 5 year models later. Want some 2017 fly gear? MSRP. Its ridiculous

Funny you say that. I went to a local shop on my way home from work. Ask for a jet. They told me why would they carry them. Everything is fuel injected. Last time I went there.

I totally get trying to support your local dealer and shop locally... but like others said here if they don’t have the part they don’t have the part. That’s when I drive down to chaparral because they do have the part. literally happened today.

Why would I wait till Tuesday for you to not call me when the part comes in when I can go thru BTO, get 15% off, and have it shipped to my door sooner?

It is a bummer though because I’ve actually tried to run the integrity driven model and it’s something I would like to believe in.

I asked my local dealer for a bit of help after spending full retail on parts there for quite some time. Also bought 3 out of 5 of my bikes there brand new.

Told them I’d run whatever they want me to run on my bikes or jerseys or anything for discounted parts. They basically came up with “oh we already have you in our program of getting 10% off”

Loyalty only goes as far as the person accepting it as loyalty.

Thus why my parts will be bought off of hookit.

I dont think the dealers get that we only try them so many times to be told they dont have it. Then we stop going in and asking. Last time i went in to get a 19" tube, was asked what year and model bike it was for.

Hookit is hit or miss I think, depending on what you get. I have a good relationship with my local dealer, and get as much as I can through them. I also use Hookit some to supplement with things I can’t get as easily, and try to build a good relationship with those companies.

Tried to start a bromance with a local dealership. Explained that my son raced and how much i would like to have thier support since I lived 5 min away.
It was like pulling teeth.
The first issue was they wouldn't order anything unless I came in and paid for it first. I did that a few times to show them i was good for it and they lifted that restriction.
Next was discount percentage. I even told them convenience and speed will win over price. They agreed on a 15% discount. I was more than happy with that until I noticed they were actually marking the parts up 20% then giving me 15% off. That ended that experiment.

There are a few companies I got a good deal with on Hookit years ago, and have turned into long term sponsors because I didn't want to be just another thankless guy getting a percentage deal. I reached out, made calls, learned who was in charge of marketing, and now I have friends that work at those companies- not just random dudes approving my deal every year.

This is exactly what I have done over the years.

A lot of my sponsors are companies I have dealt with year in,and year out. Some started with Hookit deals and I have continued to support the company as much or more than they support me.
Results also aren't always what they look at. Good results help but how you present yourself, out in public and at the races help. Don't be an "Affliction" or "Tapout" Bro that looks like a douche all the time..

Social media posts help. You can't always just put a post up saying thanks to "X" sponsor for helping me. Post up about the products you are using and what you like about them. Take good photos featuring their stuff and make it look cool.

Went off on a tnagent there but I still get support from a few companies on Hookit. Slick Products, Acerbis, GoPro, MoTool... All have given me awesome support and good prices with decent shipping cost.. When I first started on Hookit in 2012 or so, I did get hit with some high S&H charges. Dunlop being one of them. Can't remember now who else but it wasn't many. I have a friend who recently got back into riding after 15 years away and he was looking for help and discounts. I steered him toward Hookit. He has a lot of good discounts coming now, coupled with the discount our local dealership gives to racers so he is finding it a lot more affordable to keep going..

HOOKIT isn't a bad deal. Every little bit helps, but once my son finished in the top 3 in Supercross Futures and qualified for Las Vegas, I got legitimate offers in the email almost daily. Deep discounts,

Bingo, loyalty goes along way. The lazy, entilted dont want to put in any effort. Also the same riders looking to borrow bikes for events are the same that expect to be hooked up for nothing in return.
