He never let off he gas, disengaged the gears for 1/2 a second, then dumped the clutch before the last 90° right (old track). Good times

EDIT: Should add that in most of those Rollerball heyday years he was not around home much, but when he was around he certainly was not above showing up at a local race for some hard training. He'd ride all 3 classes x 2 motos and then probably run 10 miles after the last moto. Dude was an animal.

‘99 at the Washougal National in 250 Saturday practice we ran the 2nd hill after the regular uphill that rarely got used. Coming down there was a tricky slick off camber I felt like I was struggling with. Heading up the hill LaRocco came by and I figured I’d pin it and try to hang on his fender long enough to watch him through the off camber. I do and am following too close, the Rock grabs too much front brake and goes down, I run over his Gaerne as he’s rolling and ride all the way across his Jack In the Box CR 250. Thanks for the help Mike.
Hangtown 2002 I try the 125 class, made it through the Saturday qualifiers. Sunday in practice I hop into rut and think I’m on the gas....Mike Brown picked the same rut. He rams me and hollers in Tennessee talk to get the eff out of the way. I feel like I’m pinned. He lets off and then gets on it and hits me again cussing some more....twice all in the same corner.
I’ve got lots of stories but I’ll add 2 Villopoto memories. First is 2002 and he’s practicing at my local sand track on a YZ 80. I’m coming off making some National programs and night shows at SX and winning CMC races in the pro class. Villo jumps in behind me, he’s on an 80 and I’m on a 250. I think, it’s my local track, nobody is passing me on an 80 no matter who they are. Im wide open, swapping, a bit over my head and on the gas. I don’t care. We do what seems like 30 minutes of this and he is right on my fender. Finally we get waved off the track and I’m feeling good that he never got by. Sand and sweat everywhere and Villopoto walks up. I’m thinking he’s going to say good riding...but he just tells me I’m lucky he was on an 80 and if he had his Supermini he would have had my ass.
2 years later in 04 I’m out riding at a practice track and I’m the fastest guy there. It’s the week after Loretta’s and Villo shows up with a full PC 250F. His first ride on a big bike. We go out for a practice session and he laps me, Got to see him ride his first National at Binghamton the next year and was at Mt Morris in 06 when he won his first National.
Barcia came to lap him... Barcia then chose the same damn rut as he was in and got frustrated as he was held up.
My guy tried to wave him by...by then Barcia was on the rev limiter and fuming, what happened going into the next corner was the typical BamBam move.
444 was left with a broken peak, bent bar mounts
Face full of mud and very sore body...basically he dnf'd because of Barcia.
He learnt a lesson that day...

The second practice. When I'm about to go on track right when I turn on there's Joel Roelants, Jordi Tixier, Dennis Verbruggen, and Axel Aletru. All new hires from the JM Nestaan KTM team at that time. So I join the track right behind them. Needless to say, my confidence level was shattered less than 10 minutes later when they lapped me the first time I was so amazed at the speed I parked en loaded up my gear and went watching those guys spin lap after lap.
Anyways, once I realized my mistake I promptly apologized as fast as I could and explained why I did what I had done, and he was actually a really good sport about. Before I left I went to apologize one more time, and he laughingly said he hadn’t been blown off the track that hard in years.....I still take pride in him saying that to me 😂
