Was his contract up at the end of 2019 or was this a severing of a contract that was
originally to go through 2020?

Not sure but I believe he had signed a two-year deal at his last contract extension which would be up after this season. Sherco landed a couple US names for next year and beyond. Interested to see how they do with proper backing in the States.

hmm seems like a weird move.. will probably make more sense after we see what ktm/Cody does next

Edit: thought the sherco commentswere a joke but there’s a bunch on his Instagram as well... still seems like a weird move to me

The "I was able to achieve my goals and I’m forever grateful for the opportunity" part almost makes it sound like he's considering calling it quits too. The guy has an engineering degree and obviously high level motorcycle knowledge so I could see him wanting to go out on top and pursue other technical avenues before he completely wrecks his body. I guess time will tell...

The Sherco deal in the US supposedly has a bunch of money behind it right now and they are making some moves. In the past parts, support etc seemed to be pretty non-existent and was looked at as a death strike for XC riders.. It seems like they're making a push with getting Cody, Stew Baylor, and a handful of other riders as well as improving the overall program.

The bikes have proven themselves at hard enduros but I'm curious how well they do at the GNCCs/Enduros. So next year should be pretty interesting for the brand here.

I can get always get the parts for a Sherco customer in 2-3 days, which includes shipping from Tennessee.

I think this was a bit of a surprise. I spoke with Cody last week and he indicated he was staying orange next year and hitting Europe hard including my favorite race, Romaniacs.

Then again, KTM is pretty full with Taddy, Jonny, Nathan and Josep plus support for Mani who will be the WESS champ. I think Sherco or Beta would be a good move for Cody. He rides with Kyle Redmond a lot who is on a Sherco so I'm sure he is familiar with it because you know he's ridden it. Sherco also just created their new FactoryOne US team for the Amercian Hard Enduro/Endurocross/GNCC series signing Quinn Wentzel who was the next best guy after Wade Young in the inaugural AHE series. They also signed Ty Trumaine. So Sherco is making a push. Wade handily won the AHE championship and Quinn was one of the top guys behind Wade,

Or maybe GG gets into the mix. I don't see him retiring but who knows.

I hope Cody ends up where he's happy and his knee heels up well. He's my favorite in extreme. It's a shame, but he should have a couple more titles to his name instead of that other guy. Still some of the best racing around. The Endurocross section of the sport has really struggled, hopefully Eric P. and the Nitro Arenacross Team will take it to a higher level where it belongs. You really appreciate Feld when you see how badly things can go with promoters and the sport. Would love to see him going for some more titles with Beta again, but the scuttlebutt since TKO has been he's Sherco bound with the new distributor. This makes 2 riders "breaking" their contract which seems unusual? Hadn't heard about Stew but that would be a great grab too.

Whatever Cody decides, I'll be happy for him. Amazing rider, amazing ambassador for the sport, and an alum. Yeah, I was an SJSU grad way back when Bayle won his SX championship.

With that said (for my own selfish reasons), I hope he stays in the sport. I've seen him ride (in person) a couple times and it's absolutely poetic. Faaker (Haaker, just a shout out to Depp) could only dream of being such an artist on a motorcycle.

I just spoke to Cody briefly. He gave no indication what his plans are nor did I ask him. However, he doesn't at all sound like he is a man who is about to retire. So I think we will see him in new colors for 2020 but def see him!

Cody didn’t break his contract, it was up this year. I know last time his contract was up Cody had to fight to get to race the Super Enduro’s. Think Sherco will be more than happy to have him at those races!

Cody rode for Sherco (or rather the U.S. importer) before in his observed trials days.

Looking forward to see him out there in 2020!

Rumors of Cody signing with Sherco was swirling around at the TKO and confirmed shortly after. I'm not sure why anyone is assuming he's done racing. Dude is hands down the best hard enduro this side of the ocean and still competitive.

I wouldn't expect much from GasGas until 2021 just based on the current state of affairs, here in the US at least.

There was a GNCC article on RacerX the other day. They mentioned something about Stu Baylor going to a white and blue bike. I couldn't think of what bike that would be. Guess I know now.

I would like to see him on a Sherco. A local dealer had a few of the 2020's on display at our clubs harescramble. They are certainly great looking bikes.

I too heard KTM wasn't too keen on him doing the hard enduro stuff. That maybe the reason for a move on his part. Just speculating.

Mutually agreed huh. If the contract was over there would be no need to agree. They must have agreed to disagree on this one...Wink

Was bummed to see this split up as the RB KTM team is the pinnacle of off-road racing teams and was so stoked to see him rise to this highest level and WIN. In Cody's case, with his talent and desire, don't really matter what bike he rides. He'll always be a threat for the win. Dudes a moto legend with an Mechanical Engineering degree tucked between all those championships.

He didn’t just start winning when he joined KTM. In 2014 on a Beta he won the EX championship and every other major extreme race he entered in the US. His results didn’t improve at all on a KTM, because they actually couldn’t.

Yeah, totally - that came out wrong. I meant he continued to WIN a lot of titles and races for KTM at the highest level just as he did for Beta.
