It’s the off-season, so I thought it would be ok to share this in the Moto related forum. The new Storm by China Ebike manufacture Sur Ron.
It’s no Alta, but something like this in an affordable platform is intresting!
Hopefully it is embraced by the motorcycle aftermarket companies and they make products for this type of platform.

Just out of curiosity, what makes the bike "look like junk" to you? Other than not much of a rear number plate, what specifically stands out?

For starters, they decided to put cheap Fastace suspension on it. It's only going to produce about 30hp peak. Only has a 4.6kw battery. Will take 3 hours to recharge. Weighs 260lbs for the "mx" version, and the street legal version will be 275lbs.

The bike will be weaker at full tilt than an Alta on map 2, will take longer to charge, and good luck maintaining that suspension. Apparently Zero tried using those components and they gave them nothing but issues.

I have the small "ebike" version of this, the Sur Ron X, and it's an absolute blast to ride. 110lbs with a removable battery and takes about 3 hrs to charge and gets about 2 hrs or 40 miles of ride time. No engine maintenance is nice and I can ride it through the neighborhood and nobody cares. I can even take it on the sidewalk at slow speed and people just wave hello.

For everyone that automatically shits on the electrics just for being different and not "core" enough, you really should keep an open mind and give them a try. There are so many potential advantages to electric motors.

These are all valid criticisms but this a chinese company that is new to the game and not a well developed mx bike manufacturer.

These bikes are priced in the $4000 to $7000 range and their purpose isnt to replace high end race machines for competitive class riders. They're intended as an alternative to the higher priced options that currently exist and for most riders the components are likely going to be fine.

Yes, if you want to race open class pro then probably this bike isnt for you. If you live in suburbia though and want ride in your back yard or at the local open areas, these bikes allow such possibilities.

Straight up shock, wheelbase looks short, and its Chinese. Hell let me see one in person and I bet I can give you a much longer list.

If they are able to hit the mark like they did with the Sur Ron Light Bee they will sell a bunch of them. Not a world class anything, but a tremendous fun package for really cheap that has proven to be reliable. Lot's of riders reporting the ability to get way deep in the boonies where they would never attempt on a big bike opening up new opportunities. Lot's of upsides with a strong cult following. This is the type of bike that will attract millenial's and new riders and bring back old riders who quit riding.

Ebike snob much? I don’t think it was their intention to compete with a bike that’s out of production.
