Nobody wants to ride the Yamaha. Is it the bike, or Yamaha?

It’s not the bike...it’s the money.

That’s it right there. Nothing wrong with any of the bikes, just some look better than others. And the Yami and Zook are fuuugggly bikes.

So it’s always gotta be the Yamaha? Couldn’t possibly be the way he’s riding or the way he sets his bike up, could it? I don’t see him being any better on green than he was in blue. Funny how when it comes to Yamaha or Suzuki everyone blames the bike, but any other bike it’s always the rider.
Surely you remember the Red Curse?

You really don't want to get me started. When you see empty semi's showing up for most of the season...

Yup, not fun seeing empty semis...or bikes sitting on stands in awnings not getting dirty

My thoughts exactly, and I’m not even really a Suzuki guy

It'll have to be a US title or ppl won't stop. 2015 MXGP title isn't good enough. Or the brand with the most riders in the top 10 overall in the MXGPs this year. 🙈🤷‍♂️

You mean the win at A1? That doesn’t count? It’s well known that Travis Preston is a very very good test rider. Yamaha along with Barcia, and Plessinger were very off on the settings. Preston went out after washougal and basically said WTF is that? He helped barcia with the factory bike setup and then Justin was basically top 5 every moto after. Not the bike.

I believe star practices during the week with the 450.. maybe they have some better set ups?
Webb definitely seemed to ride the Star Racing YZ450 than he rode the factory one.. which was weird..

Look...I don’t know nothin, but...if I was Febvre and Monster/Kawasaki threw a ton more money, bonus cash, and associated perks at me than Yamaha would give me, and I considered the Kawasaki four-fiddy was a proven winner vs. a bike that may or may not have required more effort to be that effective...if it in fact was ever that effective at that level...

I Know it wouldn’t be hard for me to make a decision.

It's funny how the YZ450F wins all the shootouts but none of the teams here in the US can figure out how to get it set up to compete at the highest level. 250's = yes 450's=not so much

Obviously they did something right over in EU for Febvre but then again, the ability to make drastic changes is far more likely than what is allowed by the AMA.

In the GP’s they ride with different frames

What exactly happened after that one win? Not exactly a threat at the end of the season, I would think you would have to be at least top-five to be considered a threat for the following year. You’re absolutely correct though, hard to imagine that seasoned professionals, both the riders and the team don’t know how to set up a bike properly.

I think that is precisely it. Yamaha has to be open and willing to listen to the riders, yet say no when they are going down the wrong road. I have a feeling TP will be working more directly with factory Yamaha racing.

from most accounts Yamaha has a dynamite YZ, but imo there is a subliminal need they aren't meeting and that's the "look and feel" of the bike. it's just not the radical MX, race-forward bodywork I think they need. they had it in 2009 but since then they've lost that vibe. the bikes look wide, are are often referred to as tanks. i believe if they were to narrow it into a thinner design, and reshaped the body work to have a better race-aesthetic, it would help tremendously. this generation of racers/riders probably don't see the validity in this, and I get it. imo the 1985 YZ is more of a race looking design than the 2020. they just need to get back to something that is striking and looks mean.

I’m not a 100% sure but I think the Yamaha 250 has the exact same frame as the 450. At least that’s how I remember it. And the 250 is bitchin. Is it just the radiators and the plastic that puts people off? Not talking about handling , just the looks.

yes the the radiator / tank plastics area - it’s what defines the look of an MX bike imo. Yamaha should completely redesign this, make it narrow from the pilots view and angulate the shrouds and that entire section to look more classic MX. the latest KX 450 has done well with this - they’ve gone back to the classic aesthetic.

It’s a personal thing. I like the look of the Zooks JS7 and before. The Yami still looks like a frankenbike.
