One surprise for me was when Ping commented that he didn't remember Lackey being on team Honda. At least that's what I thought I heard?
Was also surprised to hear Lunniss say something about one of the early Suzuki works bike being nicknamed the "bicycle" and that it weighed around 125 lbs. ... hard to believe an mx bike could be THAT light.
Great podcast too!

He also didn’t mention Bailey’s injury & how it affected him or the team. Also the rumour he told Kiedrowski to retire.
So has he profited well from Mechanix wear gloves?
The Lunnis interview was great to listen to. I've known Brian since when he was the rider rep for Scott and have nothing but respect for him. Sure, he's full of himself, but who cares? Riders aren't the only ones allowed to have huge egos.
Here's a short Lunnis story...he helped me out quite a bit back in '79. I had the sweetest factory B-ride of my career (unlimited bikes and parts from Yamaha), but could not make those pile of crap YZ250Fs work for me. We tried every shock/fork combination from all of the suspension companies, but I just could not go fast on them. I had been killing it on Hondas, prior to getting the Yamaha ride and I just wanted to get back on a bike that felt comfortable. So I approached Gunnar Lindstrom midseason at the Pontiac SX and he agreed to backdoor me a couple of bikes and help out with parts. Having to call Kenny Clark to tell him I was headed back to Cypress with a Pro-trac trailer full of his bikes and parts was a shitty feeling, as was calling Gary Harlow at DG to tell him I was bailing on a deal that he'd worked so hard to make happen.
I'll never forget how lousy Tim Buck (my mechanic) and I felt as we dumped all those bikes, frames, wheels and parts off in Ed Scheidler's lap. I'll also never forget how good it felt to be unburdened of those pigs as we drove straight down the road to Honda. Picked up a couple of those sweet single-downtube CR 250s and some boxes of parts. As we were loading up, Lunnis trotted out a pair of works forks and clamps that he said were off of Lackey's bikes (the same Brad Lackey that he couldn't remember racing Hondas in the podcast....LOL). He was always very cool to me. He could be kind of a dick to some people, but that's because he doesn't suffer fools gladly. Lunnis is one of the good guys and it was nice to hear about all of the shit he did in the years after that. I knew a lot of it, but there was a bunch of stuff I had no idea about. The last time I spoke with Brian was at Jim Hale's service. RIP Jim Hale.
Kudos to Ping for doing his homework and the well prepared questions...and to GL for letting Lunnis speak.
Ps. I'm also calling bullshit on the existence of any 125 lb works Suzukis...170 lb at least. ;-)
I accidentally erased my previous post of more detail because of some typos I made.
Because of Damon I personally was able to meet lots of amazing people in the industry and spend lots of time with them at the races and during testing and Damon’s practice days.
I was with Damon a lot during the week leading up to races and he trained a lot Tuesday’s till the days of the races.
I always wondered where the rumors came from regarding Damon’s training habits, now I have a pretty good idea of who started such rumors.
I wish Damon would tell his side of Lunnis accusation, but knowing Damon he will just brush it off and avoid the drama. Damon is good at deescalating disputes or drama, and ignoring lies.
It just pisses me off how someone can put the wrong image out there of Damon Huffman like that.
I had always looked up to Lunnis and was honored to meet him the first time and get to hang out with him during Damon’s testing and races and such, just as much as I was to meet and hang out with Decoster. But his comments about Damon is disappointing to hear and not true.
