I mean, he’s blind in one eye. Can’t exactly race at the professional level if you have no depth perception.

Seems inevitable. Sounds like he has other stuff in the works and his vape/smoke shop business to run.

Yeah I’d def not be racing again after what happened to him. He’d make a great mentor or coach for an up and coming privateer. He’s done it and made it to the factory level.

Ernie Irvan did it... just sayin.

Hate this for him. Truly one of the good guys. He busted his ass and worked his way up from the bottom and earned a factory ride. This just plain sucks.

I think he is still waiting to see if he regains proper eye sight in the one bad eye.

Well, I wish him the best and hope he stays in the sport in some capacity. Great rider, and it sucks what happened to him.

Doesn't sound like the team is very optimistic about his return. Steve pretty much asked Coy Gibbs directly about it on a recent podcast; and Coy openly said he does not expect Weston to return to racing. Bummer.

I would love to see him back at the professional level, but at this time it seems unlikely. He would make a badass coach/trainer for an up and coming rider or a valuable asset to a team for bike testing and etc.

Pretty sure he has mentioned an insurance policy against career-ending injury. Collecting on said policy requires a 'process.' Emig and Milsaps have discussed similar policies.

if he does retire which I hope his vision returns either way I hope JGR keeps him on a a tester or in some other form.
the career ending insurance shouldn't be a factor if he remained in the industry I'm hopeful .
hell of a good dude and great rider too.

The fact that he continues to train and remain super fit reveals a lot about his character. Peick is a Viking warrior...I'm bummed that we may not see him out there in the future...

Couldn't really blame him if he did. Sad though as he is over of the true privateers made good. Wish him the best, regardless. Always had a lot of respect for his work ethic. That's one thing the naturally talented can't be taught.

Sources?

In a recent Racer X vid I think it was, he was riding the at the 2020 Fly Racing gear unveiling with a modified goggle lense that has the right side blacked out so that he could see somewhat clearly from his one good eye, and stated that it helps him a bunch. Looked fit, in good spirits, and was discussing what he's been up to and his plans ahead. Still wants to return to racing, just hoping for his vision to continue improving.

Well further up the thread you have the man who pays him to race saying he doesn't expect Peick to return, seems like a pretty legit source to me. Langston has talked plenty about the issues of racing at a professional level with basically one eye during his comeback. Said he could ride all day long comfortable at 75%, but talked about the massive leap between that and racing at full speed on rutted tracks where vision is critical.

I don't have any way of knowing, but it seems like it's over for him. I just don't see how you compete at the very top level with one eye being essentially blind.

I think he could go to local/regional races and still clean house on the pro class but at National level SX/MX I don't see how you can do that with one eye.

Bummer for sure, Peick has been a damn warrior his whole career, rare that someone can do what he did. He's got my respect whether he lines up again or not and I hope he does well for himself either way.

Tony D raced pro after his eye injury. But the choice is Weston’s and if he was smart enough to carry an insurance policy, I say good on you young man! Decide what your next challenge will be and get after it.

Really a shame for him and so unfortunate what happened.

He was great for the sport because he brings an element of a rags to riches story and a fighter. A rider who you treat with respect or things get tense.

The older I get, the worse my eyes can focus on a nicely groomed amatuer track. Fast jumps scare me because I can't focus my eyes enough. I can't imagine one eyeing it at pro speeds on a pro track. All I can say, or do is wish him the best.

Because he knows what it takes to get to the top from the ground up. I think he'd make a great trainer because he knows the value of her hard work and determination.

I’m sure he wants to return but common sense and family and little time probably told him was best to retire. He’s 29 also so not far away and I’m sure teams are shying away as well which will force the decision. It does suck what happened to him. He was at the top of his game and I wish him the best in life.

Every time I think about Peick's situation I get bummed out. One tough bastard, but seems like he's been hit with an injury he likely cannot overcome.

He gave it his all, so did his pops. Really great people and the next direction they take will be a success no doubt. Good luck to em and I hope to see em soon.

Plenty of athletes have used hard work and determination to get somewhere. That doesn't make them a great trainer or coach. Pro sports are littered with player turned coach busts.

I'm not saying he isn't capable of learning to be a great coach/trainer, but I think it's a large assumption to think that he has the skills to take an internal feeling/knowledge and package it in a way that is easily digested by a student. With his bulldog approach, I'm not sure he is technically sound enough on or off the bike to the point that he could teach it. I'm sure he would be a benefit to someone needing pushed, but it's not simply a "work harder" world anymore.

Also a large assumption to think he’s anything but not what you assume he’s not. Unless you know him personally.

The assumption is made off of public knowledge, which means there is only one way that coin can land. You can't have two majorities.

Most athletes don't make great coaches/trainers. It's an entirely different skillset and passion with a need for a small ego.

I don't know A Mart personally but I know he's a nutrition and training nerd. I don't know Dungey personally but I know he's technically perfect on a bike. I don't know AC personally but I know he's well beyond his ego. Given the public data available on Peick, there isn't much that points to him possessing the traits above.

He can hammer down no doubt and has earned his way. I think we can all agree to that. I simply asked the question because at this point, nothing indicates a bright future coaching or training motocross racers. I'm not saying it's not possible that he does possess the skills and traits required, or that he can't learn them. I simply think it's a big assumption given what I know. Maybe someone knows him personally and can shed more light on it, which was the point of the question in the first place. I just don't see it.
