I’ve been running yamalube for my premix and the Honda hp trans oil for the transmission since 2002 in all my two strokes and have had good results. After watching a video recently with Jay Clark he recommends shell rotella for trans and klotz r-50 for premix. Just curious to what you guys recommend and also your guys opinion of yamalube and Honda hp and if there’s anything better.

Yamalube has been my goto for premix. Seems darn good to me.

Have always used an inexpensive 10W40 or 20W50 in the trans. Change it ever few rides.

More expensive oils may do something for you that these wouldn't but not sure what that would be.

I did use Rotella in the crankcase on the CRF450s I've had (separate crankcase/trans case).

Only issue with yamalube I ran into was it creates a lot of spooge on trail rides. If you're not having any issues why switch? I guess there could be some slight cost savings from switching to Rotella... I ran it for a few hours and maybe it was in my head but I felt the transmission was noticeably notchier so I have made the switch to maxima MTL

I have always used Bel Ray Gear saver in trans of every thing, Not your issue but the gear saver made a huge difference when I used it in my sporster.
We have used Honda HP 4 in everything for years. Even mowers and the generator power washer etc. Never a issue great stuff. We do now use Bel Ray in our four stroke race bikes now.

HP2 two stroke oil is also great stuff used it for years also. We just returned to riding some two strokes again and use Bel Ray H1R at 32 to 1 and it is great.

Avoid Rotella, they changed the formula 2 or 3 years ago and it's known to cause your clutch to slip now. I burned through clutches on 2 bikes before realizing it was the oil.

I've been running Yamalube R for a long time now. I like it because it's relatively cheap and I know I can get it almost anywhere. I prefer Bel-Ray H1-R or Maxima K2, however; those are much cleaner-burning IMO.

For transmission oil, you can't beat Bel-Ray Gear Saver.

Motul 800 and Ipone Box 2 in both my RM's.
Used Motul Transoil prior to Ipone, but after I poured the first bottle in, there was no going back. I had no idea oil could make such a difference in clutch operation.

I agree 100%
Rekluse no longer recomends Shell Rotella because of what you stated.

I’m with you on the HP trans oil, I have run that in all my 2 stroke transmissions since the 90s and it’s great stuff! I use Motul premix though and I’m very happy with it, Maxima K2 is a close second!

HP Trans in the transmission. Motul 800/VP C12 at 48:1 in the engine (02 CR250 with porting and head work).
