Does anyone actually wear these massive protective jackets? It's currently 100 degrees and 60% humidity here in Texas...think I'd die.

After messing up my shoulder last summer I bought the one that is chest/back/shoulders. I will say that when I rode last week it was either ditch the protector or pack it up early for the day because I was overheating with it on. I’ve taken a few tumbles in it and overall it does work well. You just need to remember it’s soft armor so it’s only going to provide so much protection.

I wear this, the sequence jacket. It’s soft Armour CE level 1 but is super breathable. The kidney belt is adjustable and removable which is what I did. I race off road and have raced for 2 hours in the 90’s and have no problem overheating. I’ve crashed hard a few times too and it did a great job protecting me. I personally went with the short sleeve version.

You'd be amazed how many guys (mostly older) are wearing body suits out in the trails. At least out here in california anyway. Motocross track probably not, but it's easy to forget that there are just as many trail dogs out there as moto guys.

It actually performs better than most of the ”normal” hard protectors, as it has level 2 certifications.

I’ve used the sleeveless version of this for a couple of years. Really liked the comfort of it as it doesn’t feel that heavy. Also I’ve never had any issues with heat.

I did not know that, I was just looking for something that would protect well and fit under the jersey. As far as the overheating, normally I don’t have that issue but I am fat and July 4th it was like 90* with idk how much humidity so it was becoming unbearable.

I used the one pictured for 3 years and loved it. I just replaced it with the latest version that came out this year that's even more ventilated and I like it even more. It's the best, least restrictive, lowest profile "body protector" out there in my opinion. Of course it's hotter than just a jersey, but I wear it during 100 degree Utah summers and don't mind it a bit. But I'm a desert dork, so what do I know.

edit: for folks questioning the protection of the "soft" padding, I was in the same boat. After years of "testing" (aka crashing) in high speed, rocky terrain, my concerns have been dismissed.

Use the sleeveless myself and love it. I did remove one layer of padding on the chest, so as to better accommodate an Atlas neck brace.

Never understood what the hell these are supposed to do above and beyond a simple chest protector. Are you guys worried about a few little abrasions on your precious elbows or something? What the hell do these actually do besides increase your body temperature?

Why don't you just wrap yourselves in a giant roll of furniture foam?

I use an Alpinestars A10 chest protector. Awesome protection - probably much better than this Leatt product - and a reasonable amount of ventilation. It has shoulder pads, and you could always add elbow pads if you wanted. You couldn't pay me to wear one of these body protectors.

I wear it to protect myself from big, strong men like yourself and also to protect my precious elbows. Thanks for asking.

Yeah, you’re not alone on that one. I’ll bet 95% of people who buy a chest protector or body armour don’t know that there are differences in the way they protect. Neither did I until I had to start selling those things and actually dig in to it. There are 3 different certifications, CE, CE level 1 and CE level 2. CE actually only classifies as roost guard, and it’s amazing how many major ”protectors” only have this certification. Atleast a couple of years back Leatt and Alpinestars were the only ones with products with the highest level 2 protection. These certifications can be found printed on every protector, so next time you go to your local dealer I recomend checking through the protectors they have to see what kind of differences there are between products.

It takes something special for a post to stand out for its stupidity on vital mx, but you managed it. Congrats.

I've never owned a 450 but I really like the 350. It feels nearly as powerful and quite a bit lighter than any 450 I've ridden. Frankly, the 250 is even more fun to ride. I supposedly keep it around for my kid but I end up riding it quite a bit.

I have the newest one and use it any time it's less than 90F out, mostly in enduros and hare scramble, but also 1 MX. I've tumbled in it several time and come up good. It's not nearly as hot as you might think and I like the protection.
