East coast summers mean random and heavy rain. Do you guys worry about your air filter getting wet while you’re driving to the track? Particularly on the new Yamahas it seems easy for that thing to get soaked. Is it fine to make sure it’s dry before riding or should I reoil?

Use a plastic bag over the filter.

I think I’ll start doing this. As I get older I’m more paranoid and careful about bike maintenance. I see why “vet owned” is a thing.

If you are that worried transport with an airbox cover on and put the filter on at the track.

I keep all my old plastic bags for this reason. Weather it be transporting a bike in the rain or washing the bike between moto's, I will cover the filter with a bag if not using a cover! I get water in our KTM bad, can't imagine how bad it will be with the 2020 bike with the holes cut in the coverWoohoo

shouldn't the oil prevent the water from collecting on the filter and just run off?

No you can still saturate the filter with water.

Personally I have one of those twin air covers for the intake. Put it on when I wash it, leave it on till I get to the track and then drop in a clean oiled filter right before I go out.

I cant really see the filter getting wet from just rain. Shit on my 17 I can power wash the bike and the filter barely gets wet.

I always put a piece of tape on the air box vents. Wet or not just to keep anything like dust etc out of the air box when in transit or in the garage.
