I ride trails instead of DH because the closest DH park is 3+ hours away.

On a side note... Intense is not working out well for Aaron Gwin. I wonder if he's questioning his decision to go to a less established brand because it sure looks like he is fighting the bike the few times he's been seen riding it.

I love that Redbull broadcasts the downhill races for free. These downhill pros are awesome to watch.

I quit MX like 15 years ago and switched to DH.
I was pretty slow on an MX bike but I'm reasonably fast on a DH, so I'm pretty happy about the switch.
I would even say DH is maybe more fun, even if MX is and will always be my first love...

I love downhill, so much fun and pretty close to moto. Problem for me is I have to travel to do it.
I also have an Enduro for trails at home where I have to pedal and earn my "downhill ish" moments but it's all good. For me it's good to take a break from Moto but still he on two wheels! A lot of money wrapped up on it all...Gwins was a pretty rough one!

I did when I was stationed in Reno NV, I was spoiled with Northstar less than an hour from the garage! There is crap for DH and Moto in Vegas and my Spec Demo 8 just sits on the stand in my office now... sad I miss riding that thing!

I would ride my Spec Enduro around the trails by house but I hate the air suspension more on the bike than the SFF TAC!

Next best thing to MX !

One time out in the desert a riding bud and I did a simulated DH race on our YZs with engines off.

It was a huge downhill section of open terrain. You had to just pump the susp initially and then just stay off the brakes and hang on. Kinda funny.

I was leery that I was going to knock it into gear at speed so I kept the clutch in. haha

i once had to do this cause i shattered a piston skirt at the top of a trail, coasted about 4 miles downhill. i felt like i went faster cause i knew i needed momentum. pretty fun.

It really bums me out when I see threads about this , as I never did get into it. So much of my time was either riding mx , or working my ass off to pay for said mx. It looks like a blast , and wish I would of at least tried it out a bit.

Summer heat is the other issue.

Depends how many flat or uphill pedaling sections. I've got a full face DH helmet that is way lighter, much more vented ... and easier to take off and attach to my backpack if needed for climbing.

I do wear one of my Moto helmets when I ride DH, TLD do have some sweet DH specific helmets that are really nice. The other interesting thing is how many neck braces you see up on the mountain, seems they have been more accepted there than at the track... or on Vital!

I have been wanting to try Big Bear and since I have been making the trip down to ride at LACR and Sunrise so much lately I may as well tune up the DH Rig and head up there!

Just bought a used full suspension trail bike to mess around with and I’m really enjoying it so far. My bike doesn’t have the DH travel obviously but so far I’ve been impressed with what I can get through on the bike. Anyone out in the IE ever ride the Troy lee trail in corona? The climb is a bitch but the trail down is fun as shit!

Been to Trestle every summer for the last 4 or 5 years. It is just unbelievable every time. I find it more enjoyable than moto though I know that if I spent more than a couple months in the mountains I would get severely hurt. I feel like it's a tad bit more dangerous than moto but that's just me.

Trestle was my first time ever doing lift assisted trails. The flow is so amazing. Probably the most fun I've ever had on two wheels.

Went up to big bear memorial day weekend for opening day of the bike park, there was still snow on the mountain but they got the trail in pretty good condition to shred. Ended up separating my AC joint from a hard crash I had, such a bummer. Downhill is what got me into mountain biking, so similar to moto! Thankfully had a full face helmet on for that one. Moto helmets will work fine up there.
