So there is a new helmet company up here in northern California that is causing a lot of commotion at the local tracks. The company is called “Kali” and they are introducing a new helmet technology called composite fusion, where the shell and EPS liner are fused together. Not pre-made and then glued in like all other helmet companies. They say that this makes the helmets absorbing capabilities more consistent and effective while also allowing them to produce the lightest helmets on the market. They make all their own helmets at their own factory (they aren’t made by someone else like most helmets) and they have test results that match or exceed every other helmet on the market. Not only that, but they do it all for $299, well under the price tag of other high end helmets who are the only ones to come close to their safety ratings. Not saying they are better in every aspect but they are pretty surprising.

I am not an employee and have no connection to Kali other than seeing their booth at Club Moto in Livermore . At first I was real skeptical, until I did some research and tested one of their helmets on one of their test days. I was amazed at how much lighter it is than other helmets. I mean it is so much lighter it is hard to believe. The fit was perfect and it comes with extra pads to customize the fit to your head. I was still skeptical though until I did some research on how safe it really is. Turns out it is probably the safest helmet on the market. They do batch testing and many different kinds of testing in house to insure its protective capabilities, who well it deflects and how puncture resistant it is.

I know this kind of sounds like spam, but I just wanted to get the word out there that there is a new helmet that goes against the mold that just because it cost more it is better. They are a new mx helmet manufacturer so their products aren’t in magazines or sold at the big mail order places yet. But they have been making the shells for many other name brand helmet companies for years. If you are in the market for a new helmet that finally uses new technology to make a better and cheaper product check out their site, call them, and judge for yourself.

They are getting a lot of interest up here in nor-cal and just wanted to spread the word to the mx community. It isn’t often that a product that is better and cheaper comes along. I am not a huge fan of some of the paint jobs, but I just thought it was cool that a company is finally doing something new to protect our brains.

Here is a link their site http://www.kaliprotectives.com/

and a link to a local forum with a discussion on them: http://www.norcalmotocross.com/...et-owners-chime.html

i think their approach is interesting but i think Bells idea of designing there newest helmet for low as well as high speed impact is the direction of the future for helmet technology .... with that said you'll probably find one of the Kali helmets in my garage when i buy another helmet...Cool

It is not a new technology, it is just a more expensive technology that other helmet companies didn't really believe in and didn't pursue. It's been tested before. It's cool. for sure, but the differences in protection isn't big enough to justify the high costs of production. It is a technology that would require a pretty high retail price, which isn't really the case here. It is actually pretty cheap for a helmet of this technology. Interesting.

How do you wash the liners?
im sure the liners are removable just not the eps(foam) that the liners covered. most helmets the foam just sits in there and on some can be removed....

I have seen the test results (all 12 pages) from an independent third party testing facility (ECE22.05) and these helmets are the real deal. I would put this helmet up against any helmet on the market. The owner of Kali (who is an engineer)has 18 years of helmet design and construction under his belt and personally designed this helmet himself. This particular helmet has been in the works for about 2 years now. Kali owns one of the largest composite plants in the world and builds the helmet from start to finish. You really do need to check this new helmet out. IMO they are taking the helmet industry to the next level. Kali is based out of San Jose, CA.

ECE 22.05 is mandatory certification for all helmets sold in the EU. What you need to show is the difference between those ECE test and those of the Shark, Nolan, AGV, Shoei, Arai, Fox, TLD, Lazer, Airoh.

Kali owns "one of the largest composite plant in the world", wow, where is it, what's the name, are other helmets manufactured there?

I think it;s a great helmet like many others on the market but not The Revolution yet. The difference are not drastic compared to some of the top helmets out there.

If they can make a helmet that protects against brain damage as well as cushion you enough so you don't get knocked unconscious or get a concussion or throbbing headache that would be great but I just don't know if that's possible.

Its quite possible IMO, a helmet must have a "soft" layer on the outside. so simple and logical..

When you hit the ground and your head is slapped down even at a very low speed, the hard outside shell sends a shock right through all those layers and inner liners. To prove this, have a buddy hit you on the helmet with his hand at a low/ moderate speed. Now cover the helmet with soft gel pack or any dense foam or covering and do it again.

The problem is the hard outer shell IMO. Of course the soft outer shell would have to be removable/replaceable to allow for damage in crashes. But just think about the last time you crashed and hit your head, the helmet is so damn hard that it hurts your head even in a minor impact.

Yep it would look goofy and make the helmet larger but could possibly save lives and head aches at the very least. How goofy did the neck braces look at first?

Not posible no matter what material it is, you only have so much room in the helmet to control the deceleration of your head. The soft layer would help if someone slapped you in the head, but that's about it, so why bother? I was actually going to explain it further but after reading your post again I don't think you would understand.

The soft layer idea was tested back in the 90's. All tests proved it was a safer helmet. I dont know why the idea died. Again it was a safer helmet in tests - and it was tested for road racing. It was nothing more then foam strips on the outer shell of the helmet that allowed movement and cushion on the impact to help disperse energy. The concept was in Popular Mechanics, that tv show beyond 2000 etc. Never heard about it past 1999
