I think the booing (if that's what is was) was from AC fans, nothing more. It wasn't racist peeps booing foreigners, it was fans being disrespectful.

Imagine AC goes to the GPs and clinches a world title in Italy or France. Would your feelings be very hurt if a few of his family members celebrated the title by singing the US anthem?

I wasn't there, nor did I watch the podium/celebration... but here is my guess:

1) Fans expected (and wanted) to cheer for AC winning a championship - they were disappointed and so they boo'd him
2) Total speculation but maybe fans are annoyed he did not seem to improve his English much over the course of his time here. I am not fluent in French but I could get by in Paris if I needed to, and his accent was a bit thicker than Pourcel of Marvin when they first arrived, I think.

Either way, I'd go more with #1 than #2.

Edit: For clarification I do not lump myself into the #2 category...

He's not really that fluent to start with, and he told french media he was so emotional he could barely find his words in English...

None of the following is an attack on your comments...just my .02 cents



To point #1... Booing a guy who did nothing wrong but work his ass off to win shows a COMPLETE lack of class. Rabid/toxic fans are an embarrassment in any sport. Take a look at the asshole thug fans after a soccer game. Yeah...we need that in SX/MX.

To point #2.... at least the guy is trying to speak our language. Not like Americans who go over to Europe and get pissed off because they don't' speak English. Traveled a number of times over there and I can tell you that most people we encountered appreciated that we at least "tried" to butcher their language.

It's worth pointing out that we shouldn't let the boo's of a few people reflect negatively on the fanbase as a whole.

Remember that asshole at Redbud who was giving Marv the finger? Yeah -- 99% of us wouldn't do that, just like 99% of us wouldn't boo Dylan.
