My argument is, back then crashes and “drama” could have and was missed live, then edited during the week to include immediate replays and insert crashes and action.
I’m not saying David and Art weren’t amazing. I’m saying it wasn’t the same and they did have the post production help of editing to make it appear as the director and cameras didn’t miss anything, ever. Thus, it did make it appear David and Art never missed anything and it did give a better feel then what we have today.
I am so focused on the race I barely hear them.
I don’t want it to sound like I’m taking anything away from David or Art. They are amazing and to even have my name mentioned a couple times by them was amazing.
However, back then we had an hour of SX on TV for each round that was edited and condensed to show all the action. It was announced live, edited and refined later.
So, yes it was different and a more polished product in post production.
Beginning in 1996 we had two hours of coverage for every race and the show was not edited or refined later. That's why Art and David began traveling to all of the races each week instead of flying to Sealsco in Atlanta to lay down commentary to the edited production as had been done previously.
Also place cameras back on the track ala watching sx from the early 90s.. so 1, you can really see what the bike is doing and it gives unique perspective.
Bring back the stuck camera view so you can see the time difference between the riders... Bring back the head on camera angle..
Bring back the inside corner camera.
Drop the overhead cam
All in all, worst season broadcasting in awhile. The person who chooses what to put the camera on has no race craft or doesn't even watch races at all.
I seriously wish i could sit in on a meeting with these dudes as long as im allowed to smoke and swear in the meeting ill be fine.
Pit Row
Only thing I can say for a fact is, the riders injuries aren't plaguing them from racing tonight's race. RALPH seems to have a "hard on" for bringing up past injuries as if they're relevant to tonight's race results.
Let's not forget the signature Ralph move (high pitched, "oh and it looks like Marvin was going to)... meanwhile nothing comes about.
Guy is a complete broadcast disaster, it's as if he's broadcasting to 12yr old's trying to get them hyped up and jumping for joy.
The whole broadcast team needs an Enema and a giant Flush!
