Bastards.

You know what happens to thieves in Texas right?

Note that Rio Bravo's owner is suffering kidney failure and dealing with this twice in the past 18 months.

There is a dealer here based on the rural North Coast. They were hitting his shop twice a year taking generators only.

The owner at the time got tired of these bastards and started sleeping on a mattress behind the show room counter....armed with a 9mm.

4.5 months later it paid off, he let them break in, made sure they were well in the shop before he switched the lights on.

2 dead and the 3rd dude was later (the one that got away) picked up at the hospital where he went to seek help for gunshot wounds.

After the first hit, it would be a personal challenge to make things way too difficult to try for a second. My old man taught me this methodology. For example, his house was broken into so he went to work theif-proofing it. On one of the basement windows he built a bar setup out of stainless steel pipe. While stainless is very hard to cut with a saw, I still told him a thief could still cut through it, then he told me he put a section of loose rebar inside each piece of pipe. If you try to cut through the pipe, when the blade gets to the rebar, the bar will spin thus making it nearly impossible to cut. Smart sneaky SOB my old man is. I’m proud to be his offspring.

This truly breaks my heart, Danny is hands down the kindest, most generous person there ever was. He has given his entire life and a small fortune to resurrect Rio and save it from going away forever on the auction block.

Dave, can you PM me your phone #?

You have to feel for this moto family, Danny is very involved in the sport and wants nothing but to give back to the moto community. Rio is an iconic track and its a shame this type of stuff happens to good people.

I don't even know what to say , except that I feel bad for the owner's. But what I will say is , that Maybe if stuff starts happening here in the states like what happened at the shop by Boomslang , maybe these thieves would think twice about robbing people. At some point , the right thing to do is start slinging lead!

Danny is a really nice guy and is going through major health issues now with his kidneys (note the energy drinks in the fridge)
It is in a bad hood with easy access in and out via the bayou. This is a really bad place to store nice equipment and bikes.
That being said, I think he needs to have someone live on site for security because he keeps getting hit and there were a bunch of bikes stolen overnight during an event recently.

He should post no trespassing signs and shoot anyone found there at night. This is 100% legal in Texas and for sure, they ain't coming back tomorrow.

Danny bought Rio Bravo not to make money, but to restore the place to it's former glory which he has exceeded in doing. That track is part of my childhood, and I surely do not want it to go away. Problem is, that it is surrounded by low income housing . I had my race bike stolen at Rio between motos one night in 1978. Somehow, they pushed it out thru the woods . He has plenty of cameras, and has pics of the thieves, but it doesn't seem to help the cops catch them.

That's 2/3rds of a truly happy ending.

Hopefully the thieving bastards at Rio Bravo meet a similar fate.
