Like the title says, the beast Toby price price wins the dakar rally overall with a broken scaphoid before starting the rally. He’s endured pain and maintained consistency to win it...
He won the final stage by two minutes also and it’s the only stage he’s won all rally so that’s a hell of a statement to all of his competitors!

what an absolute legend - Pricey is a freakin' animal. I can't believe it...I've had wrist injuries, and what he did is otherworldly.

Just riding Dakar with an unhealed scaphoid is insane, but to ride at that speed, navigate, etc., etc.

Yeah gotta give him credit, what an improvement for a guy that was about 20th last Dakar. He actually doesnt have the podium spot wrapped up yet.

There’s still one guy to go through yet... the second placed guy (quintanilanana or however you spell it) crashed during the stage. He would have to lose half an hour which is unlikely or crash out, he was 8 minutes behind the lead halfway through the stage. So I reckon shorty would have fourth place by the end but yeah fucking stoked for the legend. What an effort

yep, looks like you're right. I'm sure Shorty will be stoked with 4th...he's a tick off on speed, but he seems to be improving quickly!!!

Dude 44 minutes after 34 hours of riding, it’s in reach for sure! Just a bees dick quicker each corner you take and navigation decision is all it takes...

I did mine at Phoenix sx in 2015. Tough to deal with for sure. Lose a lot of movement is the biggest issue. Tried taking couple weeks off and getting back after it. Chiropractor helped a ton keeping the movement and let it heal in 2 pieces and now it's been ok.

Quintanilla crosses the line 19 minutes behind price. So that means he came third, 20 minutes behind. Shorty made up heaps of time but not enough for podium ! Still an effort that won’t go unnoticed

This an X Ray of his wrist, it's said. Quite a big screw, by Scaphoid repair stds. Repaired only a few weeks before the start of Dakar 2019.

Years ago, I had just the tip of my Scaphoid break, with a very small screw used. Still gives me a bit of stick, as does the ligament re-attachment points for the 'Skiers Thumb' I did at the same time. I'm not inclined to near deify riders like some do, but he put in a hell of an effort. The blokes got quite a lot of metal holding him together. Good on him.

Van Beveren wasn’t in the podium spot to begin with. The podium before this stage started was price then quintanilla and Walkner third.

Quintanilla has now crossed the line and has finished third with Walkner moving to second, Shorty securing fourth.

What an absolute madman. So happy for him

This has been the closest Dakar I've seen recently. Last few years there's generally been a big shakeup at some point seperating everyone by half an hour or so

I did mine out at the old Speed World AX track in Phoenix back in 2000, mine was a non union with necrosis 6 months post Op with the screw through the bone. Doc talked to me about fusion and I waited three more months for a follow up and i am glad i did, it started to heal and the necrosis reversed which I have been told by multiple Orthopods is damn near impossible. I just had a bunch of X-rays done last week and I have arthritis throughout the hand and back up my Radius, every bone in the hand is not in correct position with calcium deposits... I guess that is why it locks up and cracks sometimes. Makes you think back, why did i miss time the triple that I had done hundreds of times before without issue!

I cant even imagine riding the Dakar with it still broken... that guy IS a beast for sure!

If Shorty got a Top 5, that's HUGE. His intent this year was to "get the system down" and truly stay in the rally's "faster group". Heck, just running with top 20 is a challenge.

He's doing this wisely and is kicking ass in only his 2nd season.

I don't support the guy for reasons some know but that definitely was a hell of a victory. From struggling Kawi support Aussie MX rider to multiple off road championship, Finke desert race and Dakar winner with only one and a half hands, he's come a long way.

I have an internal fixator like that in my radial styloid. 2 different thread pitches on each end so it won't spin in either direction...but a small carpal bone is a LOT more critical and painful (I've also had my trapezium carpal bone temporarily pinned) than a forearm bone...and to have the procedure done that close to race time. Huh WTF...holy painful Dakar moto!! I saw him do "A Day In The Dirt" once....An off-Road Legend, I am not worthy!

I just hope it held together. Blood supply from one end only. It can die if things aren’t right with rougher long term consequences than just pain.

Yes it was brutal, he was going for it for sure. This Dakar has been a tough one, mechanically and phisically. Toby's injury didn't make him any favours... but probablly forced him to take a more prudent aproach that ultimately payed dividends this time.

I'm very happy for him, I don't know the guy obiously but he looks like a true gentleman to me.
