Peter, could I ask a huge favor? Could you grab a micrometer and take some measurements of the KMX valve? If possible please use the same data points as I used for the KX125 valve earlier in the thread:

OA Length: b4 2.547 and 2.49 after grinding

pin width: .239
pin length: .590
gear width: _.554_ (gear tip to gear tip)... _.537_ laying flat against two gear tips
gear length: b4 .345 after grind .307
gear pitch: dunno? but fits standard idle gear
shaft width between gear and valve .287
shaft length (between gear and valve): .391
valve width: .767
valve length: .979
bottom pin width: .233
bottom pin length: .228

i didnt have much of an original valve to compare to, but i managed to get them to fit.






the kmx valves have the slots going the same angles, so i cut the corners off one to open the port up

The gear shop I went to said the valve I brought (a NOS left side exhaust valve) is cast aluminum. They said that if I had a whole one I could get a die made and that would be much cheaper. But I'm back to square one.

If I had a pro rig to ensure I could precisely drill vertically down the center of the broken valve, I'd consider the repair kidKawie talks about above. I'm afriad I'd make a bigger mess if I tried cobbling something together with my old ShopSmith drill press. I'm not about to pay $400 to a machine shop (what I was quoted yesterday) to do that repair, knowing it could easily fail after install.

Guy on Ebay has some valves from a 1986 KX125. I asked him for diminsions but he wrote back and said that the valve part is smaller than on the 89 125. Obviously the 86 is steel and the 89 is delicate cast aluminum.
According to Partzilla parts fiche you have a year only PV, Have you posted over on Vntagemx.us? Good luck.

You should make 99 cr125 valves for all the hpp cylinder retrofits. No longer made and the best hpp valve that was a 1 year only.

Did this same repair to my 88 kx250 2 years ago.......has worked well so far

Another approach...

These worked for an '89 KX125 and can be made by any competent machine shop from commercially available materials....

Valves are 7075 aluminum and gear blanks are 1045 steel (both very strong). Gears are pinned to shafts.
