Although it is highly unlikely, I remember hearing that Larry Ward didn't start riding until the age of 18 or 20. Is that correct?
Hi, not sure how I came across this particular thread but wanted to say that part of my childhood was spent at NW racetracks, and Larry (Ward) was a friend (all us kids hung out together - there was a lot of overnight camping out at the racetracks every weekend back then, plus everyone traveled for series racing ). Larry and my brother Todd we’re always competing against each other, and our families were all friends as well as many other racetrack families in the 80’s (Osters, Swansons, Chapmans, Thompsons, etc.). So, he definitely started out as a kid.
To the OP, you sound passionate in your words about racing, so I would say live without regrets and just do it as hard as you can, for as long as you can!

He wants to be the first moto champion with bad grammar. Let him dream, not everyone speaks as well as a factory rider you know.

It takes 5 years minimum just to reach just local A class. So at 31 you may be just fast enough to be the last place guy. Isnt there a bigger problem though? Doesnt Arenacross not exist anymore?

I would advise looking this guy up. He knows a lot about trying to qualify at an older age...

You will probably make more $ at your day job but why not race for plastic and have both? If you smoke everybody on the way up at least try.

It’s YOUR dream, so don’t lose that. I still dream of making it to the 50+ A class at 57 years old! Dreams are what motivate you and keep you going! No need to build a track or as others have said, buy a new bike, there are plenty of local practice tracks and amateur AX series races to give it a shot just for fun. Practice practice practice, starting with getting the bike suspension set up for AX, working your way through each obstacle one by one until you can string a lap together, then give a race a shot. But most of all, practice practice practice and have fun! AX is not like outdoors and takes a different skill set, in my opinion.

well with the way things went last night it honestly looks as if the local b rider around here could have got on the podium, i mean every rider except cooper webb, and colt nichols was tired after the ten minute mark lmao, arm pump surgery and all and still cant hang what jokers, i bet if johny o mara , hannah, albertyne, vulliman, mcgrath, i bet all of them constantly laugh there ass off at this feild of new age spoiled idiots that have all this equiptment and cant even ride it hard fpr more than 10 minutes, chicken is somewhere replaying the footage from last night saying if only i was riding what they were riding.

shits a joke now days anyone can make it as long as they have money, its not even about the raw talent anymore, so if i were you id work for 4 more years and pay the media to blow your name up and then dance on the stadium floor, and boom son you got a contract all while riding with no touch of talent

Your Man Card is revoked for the rest of the Supercross season & you've been sent a large jar of Jo Mamma's Butthurt Cream. Apply it out your ass...and face.

That is all,

I just want to know if the OP made it big. Doubtful though. He strikes me as a guy who races in LBZ over the boot moto pants.

I don't know if you have anything like this out where you're at but Grand Prix racing would be fun for you if you're trying to get into a fun/professional racing environment. And if you end up being decent you can still pick up some pretty big sponsors. You won't make a career out of it but you'll have a blast and likely be able to race em for as long as you want along with motocross racing on other weekends if you want more.

It's too late when you're hanging out on Vital, reading a two-year old thread asking when it's too late.

Post a reply to: When is it to late ?
