Ouch man. Like others have said, thanks for honesty. I had a scare with mine last week when I pinched the oil filter seal. Bike will be awesome with all the upgrades you have planned. Good luck.

Why are you doing a pc piston over a Carrillo? I’ve heard, read and used the Carrillo and thought it was the best out there.

It might be, I got the PC for $250. I've been looking in to things and it doesn't look like anyone has made a aftermarket rod yet. I just about have the engine ready to split just going to inspect everything.

To the guys that bought new 2019 kx450's, how much did you guys pay for them? Im looking to pick one up this winter and have the suspension sent out before spring gets here. Locally, the best price seems to be $8000 plus tax&fees.

Pretty sure Kawi rebates start kicking in after the first of the year, or somewhere around then. Might be worth looking into.

It’s usually March they hit the highest rebate, and stays the same from then on out. I was going to wait until March to buy due to rebates but I ended up getting team green support so I bought in October or November. I can’t remember but I still haven’t even ridden it, snowmobile season in the northeast.

That is a lubrication failure. Look and see if there is a jet in the head that sprays oil that possibly is clogged. I have a feel that its an isolated thing. If it weren't there would be a lot more incidents popping up. Unfortunately I think your going to have to replace the head. That galling on the bearing surface does not look good. Make sure you check everything associated with the oil pump also.

Yeah it was on me. I broke the oil pump gear when I was putting the basket in.

Damn..well it happens. At least you know what happened. The good news is it very likely its isolated to the camshaft and head. I doubt the crank suffered any damage. Also Millennium Tech can repair that head but check the price of a head because that repair is expensive also.

Yeah the crank feels fine. I'm looking to see what aftermarket stuff is available before I buy all OEM. Trying to see when pro circuit will have everything. Would like at least a Carrillo rod for the PC high compression piston.

Im a light guy for a 450, weighing around 140 lbs, decent +25/30 B rider. After being blocked off for the last time with the stock springs, I'm taking a deeper dive into my sag.
With the stock rear spring I was getting 97mm rider, and 57mm static. I still had my 4.8 kg spring from my 16, threw that in even though it was a bit long, and was getting 104 rider and 47 static.
Found that this rate was discontinued through racetech, and was wondering what you guys thought of those numbers, and possibly of a supplier for that rate of spring in the correct length?

The stock spring is a 5.4 spring.
I have a similar problem as you, i weigh 160 lbs, and bought a spring from a stock 2017 450, which is a 5.2. Havent ridden it yet, curious to see how it works. I also had too much static sag.
57mm static sag is too much, it shouldnt be over 40mm.
Also, i would always try to keep the rider sag between 100-105mm.

However, if i was you i would at first ride the 4.8 spring and see how it feels.
104 sag and 47 static sag isnt that far off of where it should be.

Now onto the bigger question, am i going to be able to find one the correct length or will this one work. The spring i have is a racetech 6727 spring, and it's 17mm longer than stock. So now im left with no visible threads, on the shock above the preload ring. I would like to find a 4.8 in the right length, unless you guys don't think this will cause an issue.
Ps. Excuse the dirty bike, broken hand at the moment and can't wash it.

I run the next size lighter than stock, 5.2. I believe it is from Factory Connection, have to double check. Stock was too stiff. The lighter spring matched with valving is perfect on my 19. Im 170 lbs

It's been stated prior, but the rebates aren't even out yet. The deal would be to buy an 18 at the moment or nut up and buy the 19 at a fair price.

One of my not so mechanically inclined buddies accidentally put his oil filter in backwards on a 13 kx250f and had the same result. Cam seized and spun the gear throwing off the timing. Replaced the cam and cleaned up the journal. It probably looked a bit better than yours did though.

Yeah I would rather buy one from PC that's already ported and ready to go. Hoping they have one but everyone is shut down still bad timing.

I rode it long enough to lose half the oil. Filled up and rode the next day. Seems good. I have my fingers crossed I didn't do any damage.

Ready to start moving forward. There were some small aluminum flakes near the oil drain but nothing major. Just got the valve compressor tool to check the valves out. Waiting for everyone to go back to work so I can get answers on what parts are available.

I personally would stay with the stock spring especially because the other spring you put on is too long, its gonna take away your static sag even worse.

You can adjust your clickers to soften the suspension up, also back your high speed dampening out to like 2 maybe 2.25 turns.

You want to be like 35mm of static sag, and 103-108mm of race sag. This is all in my opinion. I would feel uneasy running the longer spring with that much static sag, especially because the longer spring barely has the adjustment on threads of the shock, that is like playing with fire.

Another option for you is to look into other companies than race tech for the springs to get the correct one. If you cant find the exact recommendation, order a spring that is one rating stiffer.

After a few days, that's definatly the plan. Im not going to ride it again until it's resprung, and since I've currently got a broken hand, I'm just waiting for the shops to open up now.
I had put that spring on just to see how close my numbers would be, especially dinner i want even close with the stock spring. Actually if i can find a 4.7, that'd probably be perfect.
thank you for your input!
