Anyway I wish Weston not speedy but full recovery and maybe racing again because his life(racing) story is unbelievable.

Best wishes to Weston and his family. Sounds like a tough time.

In the mean time, vital members need to know our place as fans, no need for internet experts to critisize the track crew, speculate on recovery or feel that we need to know any details.
We aren’t close to Weston or his family, just send our best wishes and those that need to know what is going on (family and close friends) do. Let’s just leave it at that and pass on our best wishes or prayers.

I wish Weston nothing but the best recovery. Hopefully speedy, but mostly a full recovery. Hard working dude who's had my respect for a while based on his work ethic and effort. Get well soon!

That is pretty cheap for a Flite from France . Not sure how many of you have been flown in a Heli but you are looking at 20k just to take off . then you pay by the mile , and its not cheap . 60-80k easy for a couple hundred miles .

A fixed wing medical evacuation will Be costly. fuel. Pilots. Physician, and nurse, EMT, respiratory therapists and critical care support equipment on board. All with passports. It isn’t cheap to get that kinda people and equipment moving.

The critical care transport team at the hospital I worked for flew all over the world to get people and bring them to the one Of the 5 intensive care units.

So say his insurance covers everything but 20%. That’s still a HUGE bill....

When travelling abroad "travel insurance " would be taken out & covers extreme sports i.e. Skiing / snowboarding not sure about racing motocross/sx professionally. I was in France snowboarding in Feb & fractured my L2 ,was hospitalised for 5 days & my insurance covered all except the excess £250 ($320)insurance cost £16 ($20) The hospital bill was €1,266 (1,620) / day which covered x-rays & scans ,body cast (thankfully no surgery required) I needed three seats on plane to lay down Lyon to London then London to Dublin . Total cost including private ambulance transfer in France & Ireland was over £10,000 ($12,800) .with being European U can apply for a health card when travelling & it covers 80% of hospital costs.

Not totally relevant here but worth clearing up some info that might be misleading.

Medical care in the UK is not free to all. In fact I am a British citizen but US resident and even I have to pay for UK healthcare.

For non EU citizens you are most likely looking at the full cost of medical care in France. Also, don’t assume your US health insurance will cover your medical bills overseas. Everyone’s best bet is travel insurance.

People in the UK tend to be in the habit of getting travel insurance because they are used to the NHS and know that if they get sick on holiday it will cost them but in my experience at lot of US residents don’t get insurance when they travel and that is a huge risk.

The next thing is if your travel insurance covers extreme sports. Only a specialist one would.

If you are a US citizen, as in this case, the only thing that is free is the direct emergency treatment (life threatening). Basically as soon as you are moved outside the emergency room, you have to pay for.

If you where a european citizen visiting another country within EU, it is normally free to the same extent as in your home country. Basically the hospital will charge your home country for the treatment.
