Its crazy to see People Like Reed and RC4 to be able to swap brands and swap Motors ( 4t & 2t ) and still to be able to just go out there and ride like they have been on them machines for years!
Even reed in his later years.. Being able to swap manufactures and still go out and win or podium shows the crazy talent!
I think Husqi was the only bike that didn't work for him... Still crazy when you think back to the years when he would nearly be on a different bike every season haha

Not many guys these days swap between rides and still stay consistent with racers.

RC4 had 24-0 MX seasons on one brand. That could be saying something for X brand.

RC4 still won races on a KX, CR/CRF and a RM/RMZ...

Im not arguing what brand was best.

My point is that between RC4 and CR22.. both where able to swap between brands and then go from 2t to 4t and back... and still win races.
I don't know of any riders since that has been able to change manufactures and within 12months.. still win races.

KR94, ET3 & RD5 have done it since. Maybe not 2t's, but on 4t's.

yes.. but not over a 12month period..
they all had struggling years prior to get use to the bike. dungey took several years to get the swing of that KTM,
Tomac took his toll.

But yeah i Guess KR94 is really the only rider that's been able to swap through and adjust.

So after scrolling through old forums and reading through factory bikes over the past decade... A real eye catcher came through of JS7 2004 factory KX 125sr.
The parts on that bike are way ahead of its time!! so after doing some digging i could only find a hand full of early 2000's bikes that showed there factory trick bits. Most internal motor work which was never discussed

I was wondering if any one else has got an insight or know of any other cool parts that had been R&D many yeas ago that we still havnt seen today or better yet redesigned.
I know there are more sensors now and DLC coatings and titanium engine mounts and Bits.
I seen Destry abbots and AC92 run a 93 KX500 brake pedal and Rear Swing arms on there KXF's because of the design was more suited to there style and Longer.
Same with JS7's 125. He had a KX250 swing arm on during Motocross season because it was longer and felt more stable at high speeds.

But does any one know of any other trick bits we haven't seen in a while or different to the usual?

Pics are of a few bikes over the years. Krocs 450 with 02 sensors, JS7's 125 carbon scoops, Metty's 125 with the DLC coated internals, RC4 RM250 carbon brake cover, Reeds Factory Carbi in 2004 etc..

Are you sure about AC92 running a KX500 swingarm? That’d be a pretty blatant accusation of cheating.....

its not really cheating? its a swing arm from over a decade ago.
its not a hidden secret either, a lot of people not just the factory guys would swap swing arms. a lot of people in the early 2000's in the 125 would run the 250 swing arms, and same as now. i've seen a hand full of people running the older swing arms off the 500's in the dessert racing and even the MX series. still a Kawasaki manufactured part. really its just a longer diameter. its not like no one else can get it hahaha its not a custom part.

I could be wrong, but im pretty sure it was the 2015 KX250f that they where doing the 500 swing arm.

It'd be cheating if he used it at a National or a SX......

Pretty clear in the rules:

3.8 Swing Arms

a. Swing arm must be the same as an originally homologated model of the same manufacturer.
b. Strengthening gussets or tubes may be added, but none may be removed.
c. Chain guides may be removed or relocated.

That makes it legal the way it’s worded. Just has to be from a bike that had been previously homologated by the manufacturer of the bike you’re riding

Yep, read it the same way.

Couldn't use a swingarm from any other manufacturer, but can run it from any other kawi that's ever been homologated

Nope. It has to be original equipment, from a homologated model of the same manufacturer.

Machines are only homologated for 5 years.

Didn't think that the KX500 swingarm would have been kosher.

I know about the brake pedal on them.

But there was a video a few years ago on the endurocross scene and MX scene of them talking about how they had swapped them out.
Cooper abbot was one of them, and im sure of it (could be wrong..) but AC92 was running it as well at one point.

something to do with the location of the chain guide position and the length on the swing arm came into play.

Ill try and search for the link.

Endurocross would probably be fine, I don't think that they use the production rule.

check it out,
Some pretty cool stuff. he mentions about the swing arm in the back end of it.

I remember watching another one on Destrys bike and he was talking about 500 swing arm etc.. I think its a pretty cool thing to do.

Originally homologated, meaning that it was homologated when it was originally built, no? That’s how I took it. Could just be one of those weirdly worded terms they use though

That's the brake caliper off Josh Hill's San Manuel Yamaha.

Its crazy to me that a 6 piston caliper was needed. Some sports cars out there do not even have 6 piston calipers.
