But I'm not convinced Eli is doing his best. He's usually good in these conditions. I thought the 19 was a good idea but I'm thinking now maybe he should've kept the 18 for this one...
Tomac's "best" is very inconsistent, he's not the strongest mentally as history shows.
Agreed

I saw our guys riding their asses off and simply getting beat by riders that knew how to ride this type of track better & faster. The Euro's have "The Outdoors" down to a science.

I was STOKED to see Cairolli lay it down like he did.
getting beat by riders that knew how to ride this type of track better & faster.

This ^. This is the heart of it.

Regular AMA National prep? No problems for Barcia, Tomac etc. But it isn't and wasn't like that.

I think the post race interviews from team U.S.A will show this to be true. We'll see.

Starts were exceptionally critical today and the USA got none of them. But still, if you watched today's racing you can see how much better the MXGP riders are at adapting to the track, finding lines, and riding "around" the turns. Kudos to France and Holland, and what a great fight from Italy.

I don't think it was just a race between countries, it was like every ones goal on top of winning was to smash the Americans on their own soil. Herlings didn't seem to upset about getting 3rd.

My friend, it has been that way for about 3+ decades. It's the same reason you have so many over-the-top eurofans trying to pronound American motocross as "inferior" to GP mx. It doesn't matter how many times Tomac beats Herlings, Cairoli, or any other GP rider. It doesn't even matter if it was as recently as last year.

The dirt was great. what did they want? Blue Groove and dust? Knobby tires are meant to throw roost.

If there's one thing you can bet on in the MXDN it is that the script won't be followed

The MX world has gone full circle.
Europe was dominant in MX from the start until the 80's.
Then USA was the best for the following 20-25 years.
Now Europe is on top again in MX supremacy.

I think this also is a testament to just how much of a badass Herlings is. When he's your top rider (by far), this pushes everyone else to get faster - which they obviously have gotten. The top rider of each series sets the tone for the series. We have Tomac who set the tone for the US series. He could barely crack the top 5 once against the GP racers. Look at Roczen and Barcia - they weren't competitive either. This says less about where riders are from and is far more indicative about the competition level in the MXGP series and their top riders.

And how about Nagl on the TM, he even beat Roczen in the last race.

I'm not surprised that USA lost since the GP riders are insanely fast and can ride any conditions but I am surprised at how uncompetitive the US were. Maybe I have no room to talk since my country got 11th and that's considered a great result for us but I really thought the US would be right in the mix.

The USA puts a huge emphasis on supercross compared to the outdoors and people are surprised everyone else makes us look like c riders lining up for the a class at des nations? I for one am not

Unfortunately these days the euros are faster in MX . There was a wake up call when RV went to race the MXGP's and today it got proven again.

To be fair, RV won the second GP he ever entered. Had he not been injured I'd expect him to have placed well all season long.

Yeah, I know it's always been the world vs us, but it seemed a little more this time around. Perhaps it was just all the hype and drama surrounding the event being here on home soil. It feels like this was the nail in the coffin.

Maybe the factories should stop paying the top 1 or 2 guys in the US so much, doesn't seem like they are the fastest anymore. Also meed to stop picking on MXGP for not having full gates, does it matter if we have full gates if everyone outside the top 10 are getting lapped 2-3 times per moto?

Really? What happened last year when Herlings came for a quick visit. If I remember correctly he went from last to first on a borrowed bike on a AMA track. Just saying

Yep, Cairoli and now Herlings have made all the other GP guys step it up a little and now we see the result.

Hats off to the MXGP riders, they were the better, faster riders today in a foreign country on a foreign track. Props.
Not all of the riders to beat the US guys were GP riders. I would never had thought that one of Australia's local riders would beat Tomac & Barcia .... not once but twice!
