I dont have the answer but.....

After listening to the Decoster pod cast it appears it may again time to change the rules and somehow again try to enforce production rules to lower costs.

Maybe a a 2000 build minimum, No Factory editions.
No exotic bolts or materials.
90 % OEM suspension with only modified parts.
All parts to be OEM based or readilly available mass produced aftermarket.

It appears every part on a modern AMA factory bike is not OEM.
I know my statement has more holes than Swiss cheese

Your thoughts?

You would for sure see a lot more privateers show up whether that is a good or bad thing because people complain about lappers a lot already.

You forget one of the most expensive parts of modern race bikes: electronics
Spec or stock ECUs could be a way to reduce cost there.

Do you like $20,000 stock bikes? Because that’s how you get $20,000 stock bikes

Interesting point. I wonder if the factories would value winning more than market share or if they really believe that winning equals market domination regardless of the price tag.

A new 450 with a little bit of work done is plenty competitive with the right rider on it. Do you think is henry miller on tomacs bike will turn him into a top 3 guy. Nope.

He mentioned one thing I found interesting.
That was there were issues with the pilots
having so many choices on mapping, on suspension, on start control, that they were just overwhelmed. They are getting confused on setup.
That is a good indicator that hey, maybe enough is enough. Might be time to concentrate on making the things a bit more economical to purchase for the masses.

Two things I'd like to have heard from Roger.
1. What was the training and diet those guys did back then, when it was 45 plus 2 laps?
Is it true he ate fried bread dough for breakfast on race days?

2. What has he done, what does he do, with both diet and fitness to be in the shape he's in at his age?

There are so many variables day to day on motocross tracks, adding all these variable systems on a motocross bike is stupid. This isn't F1 where you can measure when each of the 4 corners of a car is losing traction on pavement while braking/accelerating. There are dry sections, wet sections, inconsistency in the terrain (bumps).

There are some sports that have a rawness to them (like mx) just let people learn how to ride a frickin bike and perfect the craft (imo).

Why not raise the minimum weight limit to the weight of the lightest stock bike for the previous year, ban any ignition/mapping changes that can be done during the race, and set a RPM limit for the 250 class.

They need a minimum weight of rider and bike together. Like F1.

Half these guys weigh less than a chick with a decent ass and tits.. So if you're Peick, who is a normal sized dude, you're at a disadvantage everywhere, right from the gate drop.

Sure minimum rider/bike weight would work but that may be harder to police. Random pre-event checks would probably be the way to go as ballast could be removed after tech. Point is make it so that Ti bolt kits aren't needed. Brayton won with steel bolts.

There could be a data logger clipped to the spark plugs and wire that records max rpm for the 250s. Removed from the bikes after they cross the finish line.

Let's ban start hooks too.

KTM makes a Factory Edition to update bikes so the race team has a better weapon, usually frame or engine.

Honda makes a Works Racer to add updated parts to sell to the Joe racer who is more cashed up. $$$$$$

It seems its a cycle that can't be stopped, if a manufacturer slowed updates to every second year they would end up in a mess similar to Suzuki.

Were Suzuki trying to slow the merry go round and it backfired?

Maybe a separate series? A manufacturer can support 2 riders, small brands included. No holds barred. The other series with bike performance restrictions. Stock stuff allowed, with a certain minimum of mods. Also, a limit on parts used. That way a 'poorer' person could 'keep up'.

From a spectator POV, it all seems ok as it is.
Unlike Moto GP, where only Factory bikes can win, any cashed up team can come up with a bike good enough to win.

Previously in MotoGP you needed custom tires to win. (Manufactured and flown in over night to suit the conditions) Now they have control tires. The electronic packages are one of the biggest expenses these days. Moto GP run “control” ECUs now. To reduce costs and level the playing field.

If Brayton won without even Ti bolts, that proves the point.
