JASON LAWRENCE TO JOIN CAS MONSTER ENERGY HONDA SQUADRON
OXFORD, GREAT BRITAIN, April 1, 2009: Yesterday, a deal was struck between spunky American and remarkably quick racer Jason Lawrence and the CAS Monster Energy Honda team, for the former privateer Yank to contest the remaining 14 rounds of the World MX1 Championship Series.
A dynamic personality in American motocross, Lawrence has enjoyed equal highs and lows thus far in the 2009 AMA Monster Energy Supercross Championships, finishing second at the notoriously rough Daytona Supercross by Honda, but failing to qualify for several Western Regional Supercross Lites main events, where he is the defending champion. Still, CAS Monster Energy Honda Team Manager Neil Prince remains impressed with Lawrence’s raw speed and determination, and was glad to sign him to the Oxford, United Kingdom-based team.
“The flamboyant American with the long hair possesses boatloads of talent, and I believe that when removed from his native surroundings and placed in a countryside with less distractions, he will be a major force to be reckoned with. We were all impressed with Lawrence’s ability to maintain his speed, even whilst under the scrutiny of the AMA.”
Lawrence will join team riders Billy Mackenzie and Cedric Melotte, not only in the MX1 World Championships, but also for the remainder of the British MX Championships.
“I’m really stoked,” said Lawrence, of his newly signed contract. “Finishing second at the Daytona Supercross did a lot for my career, and I can’t believe I didn’t try racing a 450 sooner. I was contacted by the CAS Monster Energy guys on the Monday after Daytona, and by Thursday, I was in Belgium at the race shop, testing the bike.”
“I’m really excited,” added Lawrence. “The switch is gonna be a fun, new challenge, and with Monster Energy also being the team sponsor of the CAS Honda team, it is an easy transition. I’m thankful that the team will allow me to bring a couple of my existing team sponsors with me—Pro Taper, ampm, Boost Mobile, and Enzo Racing—as it allows me to maintain the contacts that have helped me get to where I am today.”
Lawrence wrapped up his American career, for now, with a fifth at the St. Louis Supercross.
