You guys obviously think he would've and that's cool..
It seems people are confusing my support for others as hate for Reed and it's far from the truth
Do you really think Gibbs and Evans would have lined up today and got better results than Reed? WOW!!!

I'm far from getting angry about it. I don't get angry over this stuff, that's pointless! Yes it's your opinion and you are free to have that opinion. I just think it's a crazy one!

Here is how it should have gone down.

Reedy says he wants to race it one more time.
Someone from the supposed five man commity calls Reed and says hey mate you serious? You feel like you can get ready and wanna make a serious go of it?

Yep.

Done! Who you wanna go to battle with?

Id bet the team would look more like Reed Metty and Lawrence. I don't maybe its a good idea to send our most experienced overseas riders to an overseas race? Instead we send blokes that no one will even know who they are and have next to no experience.

Instead politics and broken friendships got in the way and the Aussie MX fans got shafted with Reed.

And not only that it was a wasted opportunity to get Chad and Metty to have a chance to mentor young Lawrence as he's gonna be the face of Aussie MX once Reedy hangs em up.

Nothing good has come of this decision.

Something good did come of this decision....for about a handful of people who were making this decision regardless of anything that is going on in the real world!
For the rest of us we just have to keep putting up with the crap!

I don't compare either of them. They are both a step below the US and GP series both in speed level, depth of class and track conditions.

They are great series on their own but dont get shot twisted. It's a big jump from aussie mx to the States. Just ask Riorden the Moss brothers and any body else not named Chad that's trued to do it.

How bout valuing that and show the man some good damned respect.

I definitely don't agree with just putting him in cause he's Chad Reed?
If no one better can go sure but the result today doesn't show me that he's better than the others chosen..

Either way haters will always find something to hate on! he will come back and wax these guys in sx then we can ask what excuses these other guys have ?

Dear Chad,
Seems like we still can't write you off. Full credit to you sir. I was wrong. I don't even think Dean Ferris would have beaten you today. I sat there shaking my head. Unbelievable. Just unbelievable. Seems like that fire still burns in you, just like it did two decades ago.
That was a man's track today, and you rode it like you'd done a whole season. Skill, experience, and more than a hint of old man's treachery.
Good luck with whatever the future holds.

Here's a thought, if Chad wanted to race mxon maybe he should have showed up at red bud this year and another national or two before they already picked the team.

I really laugh at some of the decision's that are made in this industry and then the riders wonder why. No offense chad, but I probably wouldn't have picked you either after taking the summer off and having the sx results you did this past spring. If you had done better in sx maybe they overlook not racing any nationals, but I would most likely pick guys that have been racing this summer too because they have been in the swing of things.

I maybe do an outdoor event in time before the team is selected? It’s a bit late now. Sure he had a good result but he should have done that a month ago and he would definitely have a case for selection. Doing it after the selection in a race where Canadas number 4 and a french sx guy that hasn’t rode any major outdoor championships in years get top 10 isn’t the way to prove yourself. Plus imo it being a total mudfest played in Reed’s favor.

And after last year I thought the results at the last race of the year doesn’t matter anyway because everyone is just cruising? Has that now changed?

100% agree with you! The guy gets a couple of great starts in a mud race and now it seems like he is a new man.......ha, dream on. He still finished behind what's left of a decimated field and in front of a trailridiing Tomac and a bunch of no names so that makes him deserve a spot on the team!....., even though he didn't give a shit about the position last time he was picked. If his ego wasn't so big he would have raced some nationals and stated that he wanted to race MXON prior and put it all over social media (as he loves to do) but no, his ego just assumed that he deserved to be on the team whenever he wants.

You make it sound so easy what he did this weekend. Decimated field, a bunch of no names....geez maybe I should have went and raced...by the sounds of what you say all I would have had to do is get a couple of great starts and I would have finished with Chad!

Ok, maybe I was a bit harsh but you have to look at the big picture and not just one race. There is a heap of riders out injured as usual at the end of the season(unfortunately) and this was his only race so he has nothing to lose. There is no denying the guys talent or desire when it suits him but why should we gamble on that when we have young guys chomping at the bit to have a crack?

It’s as simple as this, really. Chad shows up at Ironman after the Aussie team was picked to make a statement about how he can still ride outdoors, but it’s too little too late at that point. He should have showed up for Red Bud, or literally any nationals race since 2015.

No hand outs, earn your spot. Just because you’ve been fast in the past doesn’t mean you’re going to be as fast now. The objective is to build a team that can win the race for your country, and with Ironman being a mudder, I still have no idea about Chad’s outdoor speed in normal conditions.

How big of a big picture do you want me to look at? Because my big picture goes back to all the years that Chad has been killing it for! The young guys may be chomping on the bit to have a crack, but Chad is chomping at the very least just as hard. You or nobody can ever deny Chad's hunger and desire to go after something once he has committed himself to it! And it's my opinion that what he has achieved and what he has done for Australian MX warrants a decent send-off at the MXDN.

He’ll get his farewell tour next year for 2019 SX season if he takes a deal from someone like JGR, you can’t act like this guy is being denied a send-off just because he wasn’t a logical pick for MXoN.

As far as him trying as hard as the young guys, you mean the new guys that are out racing each weekend? And that’s cool that he may be trying “just as hard” but I don’t think the MXoN gives out A’s for effort.

Maybe you should read my post again...I didn't say he was trying as hard as the young guys....I said he was chomping at the bit just as much as the young guys. There is a big difference between what you said I said and what I actually did say.
That is a classic example of what all the anti-Reed people do...they change things around in an attempt to give themselves a better argument. They are the all-time champions at Chinese whispers!!!

Well then, in your post I was referring to, what do you mean by “chomping on the bit”? Do you mean that he’s just as eager to race as the younger guys? If so, why hasn’t he been racing outdoors the last three seasons?

I don’t need to spin this any way to give myself a better argument, the guy’s outdoors results (or lack thereof) speaks for itself. Point is, there were better options for Australia to pick to put their country/continent in better standing to win, and for CR to think he deserved a spot on the team on name alone reinforces the opinion that he acts like a diva sometimes.

Reed is probably my all time favorite rider. I'd love to get to see him ride one last time at MXdN, but in my opinion, it's the correct decision for him not to be selected. He hasn't raced MX for 2 years, seems to have very little interest in doing so, and I find it very hard to believe he would have any interest in MXdN if it wasn't in the US. He showed at the weekend that class is permanent and he still has the ability, but he did nothing before the point where the team had to be announced to show that he was ready and able. It's easy to sit here now and say what a terrible decision it is, but what kind of message are you sending to the guys riding the Aussie nationals if you pick a guy who is 36 and hasn't raced MX for 2 years. MA did the right thing

You silly man!!

Yeah let's look at the "big picture".

Chad Reed.
36 years old.
Multi time ama champ.
No 5 on all time win list.
Captain of Aus MXDN team since 2002.
MXDN moto winner and overall podium.
More laps around Red Bud than any current rider world wide.
Yes he's coming off a tuff SX series where he could barely walk for half of it but still managed to finish as top privateer.

Mitch Evan's.
18 years old.
Currently 200 plus points down behind Aussie series leaders Ferris.
Never done jack shit at the international level.
Never raced Red Bud.
Not hating on the dude but he's young and has his whole career ahead of him. Holding him out for another year is no big deal. If he's still performing next year he will get his shot.

I'd be willing to bet that Reeds lackluster results at Latvia are still better than what Evan's will produce.

Do you follow the Aussie series? Ever been to a Aussie national?

I'm guessing the answer is no and you have no idea the level of competition and conditions that they race in here. All concrete dusty freeways. It's a huge jump from there to the world stage.

if you picked Reed, Evans would have been your next pick anyway, as he was the next best behind Ferris (who is said he is not going)

so its really Gibbs vs Reed,

take out last weekend as the decision was made a month before and do a comparison,

Reed last MXdN 2014, 14-38 moto Scores,
Gibbs last MXdN 2017 5-19 Moto Score,

If not arbitrary...

2016 Reed UK MXGP 13th overall
2015 Gibbs US MXGP 20th overall.

Gibbs crashed out of the first moto though... but that's kinda the point. Comparisons are not much help if not the same day same track, let alone series against different riders. Comparing Evans and Ferris is hard because Ferris is one of those guys like Langston who isn't afraid of the moment. Not everyone has what he or Reed or Lawrence has. Speed at home isn't speed on the world stage, ask every Canadian racer since Rollerball.

It's a bummer Reedy couldn't have raced Red Bud as a similar performance to Iron Man would likely force MA's hand... although I've heard they're not all eye to eye...

And I think if he can put in a solid effort he deserves it, but now we'll never see it again. I'm not sure USA guys would understand what that means to Aussie moto fans, the dude is a fuckin hero. The sport is so small here, and so different, it's not the same, not at all. What he has done won't happen again in our lifetime, let alone against two of the biggest titans the sport has ever seen.
