Drain Bolt Dilema

As you can see in this pic the drain hole was helicoiled at a bad angle. Its also american threads. Any suggestions other than taking it to a local machinist?

Your expert advice and experience is appreciated. Trying to save this beat 96' CR125.

My advice is to weld it up and remachine the hole

i had this problem, unfortunately i had to split the cases and get a bose welded onto it and tapped a new thread onto it and put it back together

Take it down to Dix Machine in Visalia they will be able to fix it right up.

One option is “Timeserts”.
“Thickserts” if more material removal is required to repair.

Even if it isn’t the soloution for this issue - handy to know about if you have an interest in VMX. Saved a welding job on my ‘81 RM125 fork leg. A perfect soloution. (Better than new - the axle screws into steel now!)

One option, not the most desirable option. File the surface perpendicular to the crooked hole, in other words make the the surface flat relative to the bolt,

I have a 97 yz125 where someone tapped a bolt hole for the fork guard with a Standard tap, and also a hole for the swingarm guard with a standard tap. I suppose this could fix this for me??

I think it could.

I’d try a (cheaper) normal helicoil first.
Depending on how oversized the hole is - Helicoil, Timesert, Thicksert. In that order.
You can probably find the drill size required for each option, and compare that to the situation.
