This will be the nail in the coffin for JS7 fans. The reality will finally hit come A1 2019.

Regardless of what number he takes, he stays healthy he will be a threat for a long time.

I don't feel the same, when I think of James it's still goes with 259. I relate the #7 to...well... "Big Bird" Larry Ward i guess? LoL had to go way back for that one.

I'd rather see him take 7 than 5... is there such thing as a cooling off period for numbers of retired riders? We still see Dungey about the place making public appearances, testing etc on the #5 Red Bull KTM, which of course he could still do just like RV does, but I feel its still "his" number for a little longer yet...

If he takes 8 and goes with AP8. His nickname could be “The Ape” AP-Eight. Kinda works right?

PS. Or maybe I had to many adult sodas tonight?

I like number 9. It has never been used by a great rider who you would have to live up to or be compared to the history and results of the rider who previously used that digit. I have a feeling AP is going to do big things in the future especially on a 450.

I would like to see the number 8 on the Yamaha.

I was bored one night and did this concerning the number 8.

History of the number 8 from 1990 to now.

Years it was on a Yamaha

1990 Damon Bradshaw
1992 Jeff Emig
1993 Damon Bradshaw
1998 Kevin Windham
2000 to 2003 Not Used
2004 to 2010 Grant Langston was number 8
Langston rode for Yamaha from 2007 to 2010

The number 8 in the years it was on a different brand.

1991 Jean-Michel Bayle (Honda)
1994 Doug Henry (Honda)
1995 Jeff Stanton (Honda)

1996 Mike LaRocco (Suzuki)
1997 Greg Albertyn (Suzuki)
1999 Greg Albertyn (Suzuki)

2004 Grant Langston (KTM)

2005 Grant Langston (Kawasaki)
2006 Grant Langston (Kawasaki)

Ironically from 1990 to now the number 8 has been on a Yamaha for a total of 8 times. The most of any manufacturer.

Riders that have won titles with the number 8

1991 Jean-Michel Bayle (250MX, 250SX, 500MX)
1992 Jeff Emig (125MX)
1994 Doug Henry (125MX)
1999 Greg Albertyn (250MX)
2007 Grant Langston (450MX)
Thought Jeff Stanton retired end of 1994?

Good. It's about time. Someone took the 4 and the 2. Nobody has shit to complain about the 7 going to a newly crowned champ. James has had every opportunity to keep it if we actually wanted to. My hunch is he doesn't care. RC still rides the 4, MC still rides the 2. It isn't like he can't use it for non racing purposes.

Looks like he did. Would have been 8 for '95.

The 8 has won 7 titles since 1990. Plessinger should take 8 and grab title number 8 for number 8.

I'm, so down for Plessinger to take the #7. He deserves it. Although does "Seven" Gear company try to maintain that rider?

I'm as big as a Bubba fan as you'll find but if AP wants 7 then I hope he takes it. James doesn't particularly owe anything to anyone but I admit it kinda upsets me he has nothing to do with the sport that gave him the life he has.

I wish James the best. Just wish he would be a little involved. I guess he's scared to say I'm done. I understand that. But still.
