Hey, What if... all you guys that think Rick Johnson is going to lead team Costa Rica in destroying the integrity of the MXDN got together with all the guys in the Tomac haters thread and start a petition demanding an end to all this before it destroys this great sport.
Ban Costa Rica forever, ban Travis, RJ, Ryan, and anyone else that wants to participate in this nonsense with Albertson. Ban Tomac as punishment for not showing last year, and send a message to anyone that dares to say no in the future. Ban 2 strokes, chain saws, trophy girls, booing, Larrocos Leap, and anything else that's giving you a rash. Hell, ban cobustion engines while your at it. Electric bikes are the future . I'm sure all this will help grow the sport and secure it's future integrity, right.
Or, take a second and realize these guys are proffessional that have done this before. And understand that they have probably thought this through a bit and know how to put all this in context and that they will conduct themselves professionally like they have all done many times over. I predict they give a great effort, and the fans will dig the 2 strokes. Really what's not to like.
What’s not to like? That you’re confusing Costa Rica with Puerto Rico. ?

if they wanted to do a cool charitable thing for Puerto Rico AND respect the sport....go get JS7, Villo, and Carmichael, throw 'em on 250 2-strokes and let 'em rip. If they got winded and placed 38th, nobody would even care because it would just be amazing to see JS7 cruising around in dead last on the 259 2-smoker...and he could proudly say that he's terribly out of shape, but it was for charity, so it's all in good fun.

People would go nuts for it, they are the sport's most recent big names, they are legit people, and it wouldn't come across a circus side show. Attendance would skyrocket, the swag would get bought up like crazy, and the autograph lines would be a mile long (and charge $5/ea since it's for charity).

This whole idea started from The Ronnie Mac camp in November of 2017. From raising awareness/money for PR and being able to showcase the MXoN which is the largest race in the world to people that have never heard of Motocross period. Ronnie’s appearance fees for races is top 5 in MX and this is just a passion project for him. This is far bigger than any of you are trying to understand. Everybody wants moto to grow but nobody wants to step out of the norm to make it happen. We just stick in the same mindset and complain about lack of growth. This project will continue into 2019 and everyone will be blown away when everything is finished and out. But then again I’m sure cole trickle hurt nascar..... So let’s kick Ronnie off his own team!!! SMH. Lets not forget Ron fucking Rips and I will put money on it that no one can ride the screaming eagle faster than ron!

Ha Ha. I knew something wasn't right as I typed that. In my defense I caught some kind of death flu bug shit, been jacked up on prednisone, can't sleep and been trying to write proposals for two days.
I might not know Costa Rica from puerto Rico at the moment but I stand by everything else as sound opinion of an old get get off my lawn, MXA reading hard core moto traditionalist.

Personally it would still feel off...

Granted going from Ronnie Mac the character to Brown the real human is a step up it brings more attention to the fact that "we're exploiting a loophole to send a second team U.S.A.".

I know I'm in the minority here but if I agree to a game of 3x3 I don't try and get another 3 of my guys on the field because of a technicality only I can take advantage of.

If they were sending say a healthy Anderson, Baggett, JMart & actually trying to win and claim victory for the US I could see your point but the reality is something altogether different...

Edit: that and your 3:3 analogy doesn’t exactly apply unless they’re slowing the US and PR team to combine their scores: )
And why the hell should the US get two shots at the top spot on the podium and all the rest not?

If you send 6 of the best US riders when every other country can only send 3, dont you think thats a bit unfair?

Brownie is probably faster than all 3 riders on Team P.R. but that team is exactly made for the P.R. (public relations) initials. TP and Ronnie Mac both have huge social media followings, he'd be better off replacing Sipes. They don't plan on winning and are in it to raise money for Puerto Rico. But I'd love to see Brownie out there ripping a 125.

No American kid growing up wants to race for Puerto Rico at the MXdN. The dream is to race for Team USA.

Just like a French kid wants to race for Team France and an Italian kid wants to race for Team Italy.

Racing at the Des Nations isn’t really about the actual race, it’s about representing your country and the honor of being 1 of 3 riders selected and trying to win for your country and your teammates. The best of the non selected riders don’t want to race for Puerto Rico or Guam or any other loophole way into the event as a consolation prize.

When Osborne and Alex Martin raced for Puerto Rico I bet they never fathomed they would eventually climb the ranks and race for Team USA. and when they did race for Puerto Rico they weren’t even on the radar for Team USA during those years.

These guys are risking everything for a good cause.
Also, who in the world doesn't want to hear two stokes again?
Do you want to be part of the group of people actively trying to stop this effort?
People are nuts. This is an awesome thing and people bitch about it. I just don't get the haters.

Any other country can do the same thing if they have a territory... not a US only thing. Problem is, most other countries are probably cash strapped and slim pickens for riders. A lot of hate and jealousy going on here. Can't wait to use my VIP GOLD ticket and have fun watching this race.

Right...

Another example is the Italians who for years would field a 2nd Team as San Marino using regular Italian GP riders.

The US/PR team thing is fine with me, and I enjoy the Mac character...but I wonder where he takes it. To me...it’s essentially “Borat” and it works in small doses until everyone is familiar with it and it isn’t shocking or entertaining anymore. Still I 100% believe the Euros will love it and go absolutely nuts.

the only MXdN team that Mike Brown was ever selected to ride on was the 2001 team, which never got to race because Team USA pulled out of the race due to the events that took place on 9/11 just weeks before the race

The same ones complaining about this team, also complain that the riders aren't getting paid enough because there aren't outside sponsors. Outside sponsors will join in if they see these races and the amount of world wide publicity this type of race gets. Reaching those sponsors is tough. Sending the same cookie cutter racers to do the same thing won't attract much attention.

Best of luck to you guys!

No different than the French fielding French Guiana, French Polynesia, Martinique, Monaco or Andorra (Spain could use that also since it's jointly ruled), UK breaking up their options and using England, Wales, North Ireland, Scotland etc. it just doesn't make sense financially in most cases.

To continue on with this story line....

I heard a rumor (or started it, whatever) that Mitch was pulling Mikes '01 MXDN 125 off the display floor and prepping it for the race.

The stars are aligning here boys....

Righting this wrong would be one of the greatest stories in American Motocross folklore.

If I remember correctly in 05 he was announced early as the US 125/250F/MX2/Lites/whatever rider. He was on a private Honda team...he had some bad races and bike problems and they dropped him from the team...seemed like someone doubted him and the competitiveness of his bike.

RV is not going to line up against Tomac and Herlings among others, knowing he'll get smoked.

Have real mixed feelings about this...
It's like switching a clown with Mister Serious (if not Mister Boring), and I'm not sure it doesn't take off a large part of the team's "marketing value" which is the whole point in the beginning, isn't it?
To be honest, I'm no hater, in no way I would sign a petition to ban the team, but the whole concept is a bit beyond my grasp...
Can't say I'm a big fan of sending a team that mostly sounds like a joke to such an event...
One professional pilot, a professional bozo and Travis somewhere in between is kinda strange...

There's one guy on Team USA who may not want to be there. I can guarantee you the other two would love to go every year.
